Cruise Control Drops Out ???

Featured Replies

Drove from Gloucester to Scrabster and noticed that on way there and back cruise control dropped out and would not re-engage. Ok after a watering stop !! Seems to just need ignition off and back on to reset. On further journey from Scunny back to Glos dropped out again after about 100mins of driving non stop.

Anyone any ideas why ?????

Is this a known problem ???

This is a known fault and the stalk will have to be replaced.

sounds like the infamous problem that seems to affect the indicator stalk. Basically you either need a new stalk, or fix the current one. I fixed mine after it stopped working for good, and it been fine ever since. There is a thread in here with a guide on how to fix it.

It can also be the first-stage of the car going into limp-home mode. If so the air-con will also dis-engage (not noticable on a cold day). I've had it on two occasions, one the stearing column ECU needed replacing, the other the EGR valve needed replacing.

In the second stage, the warning lights come on and the engine looses power.

IIRC sometimes a faulty brake switch can interfere with the CC (dud brake switches being another common VAG fault, unfortunately). If you have access to vagcom/VCDS or the dealer software tool there may be a fault code stored on the ECU.

Thanks for the advice.

Dismantled, cleaner & re-assembled so will now have to wait for a long trip to test!
