Moving on from Stage 1

Featured Replies

I'm currently running on a stage 1 Angel Tuning remap, the only engine mod is a replacement panel filter. What do I need for the next step, Induction kit, exhaust etc......Angel offer a CAI kit for a reasonable price + they will modify the remap and fit for that price, but is it a good choice? or should I go for a Neuspeed or Evoms? and what sort of money am I looking at?

This is strictly on a SWMBO must not no!!!

Cheers, Lee.

I'd suggest that you try & find some local-ish members with the mod's you're thinking of & ask nicely for a ride out. Plus all of the meets I've been on have been really sociable. You'll have a much better idea of what you'll be getting for your money.

In terms of "bang for your buck" if you can get a discounted upgrade with your existing supplier, then it would make sense to stick with them.

id look into the evoms/vf engineering/p-flow intakes as the are the proven ones. id rather spend my money on something that i know will be worth it.

alternsatively you could wait for the forge twintake which looks like its going to be nuts.

You wont need a full straight through exhaust. a sports DP and CAT is enough to go stage 2. my pipewerx is around £470ish on the pipewerx ebay shop which is cheap in comparison to miltek etc other options are blueflame, piper. you'll need to phone them though as they havent updated their websites yet.

yeah as simon says , decent intake , i just fitted the bsh true seal and its very good , not seen em here but the yank mk5 forum rave on them , brilliant price as well in comparison , especially at the release price.

gonna have to look at the pipewerx now , but the fuelling issues bother me tbh.

fueling issues?????

fueling issues?????

yeah not fancying maybe needing a hp fuel pump , not cost effective for me i dont think .

you wont need a HPFP going to stage 2 only stage 2+. I initially thought i had fueling issues with bluefin but once the ECU adapted after a day or two they dissapeared and it runs great. i only bought the autotech internals cos i was wanting stage 2+.

What remap do you have??

revo , simon .

what sort of figures would i see , oh god , i'm catching briskitis are'nt i

about 250-260bhp, 300Ibft torque. it'd be the same as carl had prior to his stage 2+ mods. think its only 50quid for the extra mapping

For Stage 2 on Revo you will see

245-250bhp & 285-290lb/ft with just an Intake and Map (also CBE but no difference without)

I had 256.7bhp and 302lb/ft with every mod possible i.e HPFP, EVOMS, CBE, Turbo Outlet Pipe. They are the only performance enhancing mods.

S3 intercooler, DV relocation, Sachs Clutch & Flywheel, Koni FSD's, Eibach Springs and F&R ARB's make no difference to the power (cooler just makes it more consistent)

IMHO S3 intercooler is the way to go as a Forge Twintercooler is far more expensive for the same job.

I know you were considering S3 intercooler & Twintercooler Simon but unless you got a KO4 or bigger turbo you wont have enough flow in the turbo and would cause problems. Also don't forget S3 intercooler is 40mm thick vs Stock 30mm and has Cast Aluminium end tanks rather than plastic like the Stock ones. So they don't split

For Stage 2 you definately need CAI, and CBE (although CBE doesn't give any performance). You may also need HPFP as some people (me included) experience fuel cuts with Stage 2 Software. This can be quite easily highlighted on a RR and your Tuner should be able to highlight this.

Optional Mods are -

HPFP - Will give more power but only really noticeable with stage 2+ software. Not needed on stage 2 unless you get fuel cuts.

Turbo Outlet Pipe - Gives about 5bhp and about 10lb/ft (i have RR Graph to prove this)

Turbo Back Exhaust - Generally gives about 260bhp with Stage 2 (not extra - in total :D)

S3 Intercooler - Doesn't give power increase just makes it consistent. On stock intercooler your most powerful run is generally your first or second. Whereas over 7 runs my car consistently made 256-257bhp on stage 2

Hi-Flow intercooler Pipe - Again no power just consistency.

DV relocation - Not really necessary now with Rev D DV but if your planning KO4 then you need it. So get it early to help keep KO4 costs down

Clutch Upgrade - Standard clutch is only rated to 250lb/ft iirc. Not always necessary but mine started slipping after 11k miles on stage 2 so got a Sachs Clutch & Flywheel put in.

Quaiffe/Peloquin ATB diff. Really useful for putting power down, especially in corners. This is probably going to be my next mod.

Torque Arm Insert - Especially if you fit TBE (thanks for reminding me Steve :) )

Pagey - Im about 9 miles from Dover so can take you out in mine so you can see what Stage 2+ is like and can show you what mods you need etc for Stage 2

I've posted this elsewhere but there's no harm in repeating myself ;) ........................... the following is an extract of a message sent to another fellow member asking pretty much the same thing you are so hope this helps:-

Ok I'll try and answer your questions as best I can but these are MY opnions on what I would do starting with:-

Minimum revo Stage one

I have seen the results of so many remaps on 2.0 TFSI's (hundreds of RR runs) and am convinced that REVO is the best way to go, especially if you have plans to upgrade to Stage II and beyond. Stage one is fantastic, makes a huge difference over standard and I would not hesitate recomending you going ahead straight away with this mod.

Don't forget to fit a Torque Arm Insert (Neuspeed do one), relatively cheap but it does help keeping engine movement down to a minimum.

To enhance the capabilities of Stage I further then deffinately change the air filter to a K&N, Jettex etc. (they're all pretty much the same imo) or if you feel like splashing the cash the the Carbonio is a very nice bit of kit and easy to fit but not everyone agrees there is any significant improvement over just changing the filter however I liked it to the extent that I very nearly went back to it from the EVOMS purely because I prefred the sound from it!

Assuming you are buying a second hand car I'd also change the DV to the latest VAG revision ('G' I think it is now) or fit the Forge aftermarket one.

If you don't intend on going further than stage I then I'd also consider Bluefin, but it is more restrictive and not ideal for future modding.

If i have enough money option - Revo Stage 2

Going to Stage II is a diffrent ball game altogether and this is where things start to get expensive for apparantly little gain but I'll try and summarise as best I can. These are the options I would fit and in the order I'd fit them:-

EVOMS intake will give you noticable increase in power, up around 15bhp over a standard OEM panel filter or around 8-10bhp over an aftermarktet panel filter such as a K&N. I can't recomend any other intakes but tbh the EVOMS is widely regarded as the best on the market.

Milltek Exhaust whilst not showing any noticable improvement is essential later for effective Stage II, but I'd start with the catback and add the downpipe later when funds allow.

High flow fuel pump, don't mess around with the Autotech retro fit versions like I did as there have been a few horror stories about cam lobe wear so fit the APR one although it is three times the price as you buy the complete fuel pump.

S3 Intercooler, I had the Forge Twintercooler but the S3 OEM version is not only cheaper it's also easier to fit and gives pretty much the same gains.

Only when you've added that little lot would I start to think about Stage II

Once you get to this level of tuning you're ready for the 'garnish', Neuspeed highflow discharge pipes etc. but by then you'll be more of an expert on it than me and know what you'll need ;)

...... oh and if you want to keep SWMBO out of the picture then this might help too ;)

Eight Step Plan

Hasn't worked for my "other" plan yet though Steve :(

Carl:thumbup:

I wasnt planning on an IC for a while, but i think I had a little bit of heat soak at the ring on saturday, it was above 30 degrees though, plus me giving her the beans around the track didnt help. winter is nearing though so ill prob wait till next sumer before the IC, not bothered whether i go for S3 or forge TBH, what ever is cheapest to buy and fit inclusive of labour.

K04 is way off for the minute, theres an massive list of mods before i get there

incl BIG brakes, LSD, clutch, water meth injection, forge twintake, poly bushes, bilstein/KW track spec coilovers, poly bushes, racing engine mounts, and a more aggressive remap. then ill look into bigger turbos, but if im at that point illprob bypass the k04 and go straight to a GT28RS or bigger.

the aim is for an awesome track car that can be used for the family

what does this stand for SWMBO, i know its the missus but not sure of the full meaning

She Who MUST Be Obeyed ;)

S3 incl fitting & VAT will work out cheaper than a twintercooler. You can fit either yourself ( I did my intercooler myself took 7 hours but I was being overly cautious could prob do it in about 4-5)

Carl

either or really, not that bothered as they both will do the job. Big brakes are going on before that though, water meth for xmas, then when i get my bonus when i complete this course im on im getting the LSD, clutch, and the rest will go on
