Has anyone tried this as a bug remover?

(Serious question)

No. I would think with the solvents used in it it will removed any wax or polish you have on the car.

I always wait until morning when there is a dew on the car and they wipe straight off

Megs Quick Detailer helps

ISTR seeing it recommended for cleaning alloys (might even have been on the can). Not that the overspray hitting the brake discs will cause any harm...

Thats why you apply it to a cloth first ;)

Not that i would recommend applying it to wheels though!

Try Meguiars Bug and Tar Remover...

WD40 does not contain any solvents and is safe on most surfaces. I use it regular in my job for cleaning almost anything. Really good for bringing up any black trims on your car and exhaust. I am that confident it cant damage your paintwork i am going to use it on all those bugs stuck to the front of my car next time i was it.

It is not correctly explained there as the solvent that is acctually used should not evenn be classed as a solvent. They would not advise to use it if it did damage as they state for a fact it can be used to clean tar and stains from paintwork

WD-40 Myths, Legends and Fun Facts

use it or dont your choice

Thanks for the replies guys,

The thing that prompted me was a magazine article (clearly cut & paste off the net) listing dozens of unusal uses for WD40. I read it just after struggling with squished bugs!

The article though stated that the key ingredient is fish oil, which looking at the link above to WD40s own site is a myth (the article also had the "use to attract fish" too).

Washing your car covers it in "solvents".

Water is an especially good solvent for certain things, and if you want to lift something off a surface you need a solvent.

It's all down to what the solvents are,

I just use an old dishcloth soaked in quite warm water and leave it on the bad bugs for 10 minutes. They tend to just wash off after that.

i personally like 7.9,20 and 33

I too find a wet towel laid on it for a while does the trick :)
