Octy Facelift hacks ?

Featured Replies

 Are there any hacks/mods for the new Octavia facelift ? eg can the bolero radio display video, will it display other can bus info ( I think the ocy 2 does ) can I have total close for all the windows on just one press, thats better than holding the button for the windows to close ? what options would be available if I had vagcom and if so what version would be best ? cheers - Stuart.

No the bolero doesnt do video.

Total closure is a push and hold.

I think you're getting confused with what maxidot displays. Maxidot can display bus infor for some items, and configure certain items as well without need for vagcom.

I'll have what your smoking Simeon ;)

these people seem to have it working:

that looks ace - need it!

No idea how he's done that, but very briefly before and after the video starts you get a message at the top which says "Optical Parking System", also "AV4"..

I'd guess he's hacked a reversing camera into the system.

As for the question "Does the Bolero do Video?" As in DVD? Possibly not as it would need hardware decoders..

I do believe that the RNS510 will do reversing camera input, as a colleague of mine has a Mk5 Golf with this unit and was looking at a reverse parking camera as an option.

The Bolero (RCD-510) doesn't have a video input on the rear. However the hardware does support video in. On the back of the VW RCD-510 there's a seperate, single RCA port (yellow) for video in. With the reversing camera, say on the mk6 golf, there's an extra ECU added to the car. Not sure where it sits or where it's tap-in point for canbus connectivity is.

Video in can be added to the bolero, just noone's done it yet

Likewise, the RCD510 on a VW Passat can support rear-view parking camera.

I said noone had done it, turns out they have!

Not exactly user friendly to fit -- if fitting to a Bolero you need to open up the unit, disconnect the existing ribbon cable for the LCD from a daughterboard inside, plug in a new additional daughter board, run the lcd ribbon cable from that, then there's a new ribbon in the kit to run from the RCD510's daughterboard to the new module. Effectively this thing plugs inline between the RCD510 and it's LCD display.

Add's multiple video inputs, so on the display you can choose between 4 inputs: RCD510 normal output / reversing camera / secondary camera / colour video input.

This is a different way of doing things from what i imagined, but fair do's, it'll work :giggle:

 Thanks for all the replys, I was thinking about fitting a reversing camera to my caravan and hooking it up to the display, its possable but it seems a bit pricey at £300 cheers - Stuart

I've just ordered a new Passat, and the parking sensors and rear-view camera were a £665 option :o

...and the RCD510 isn't standard either - that's a £250 option even on the Highline model. At least Skoda fit the Bolero as standard
