cpu problem?

Featured Replies

i have a 1999 fabia with 62k, my first after a driving lifetime of fords and i do wish id made the change sooner as i do enjoy the car.

i am having a problem though.

once or twice now the tripometer has reset itself (i know i havent done it) and yesterday i had my abs warning light come on along with the brake one with all the attendant bells and whistles.

luckily i was passing the garage i always use and they checked the brakes told me they was ok and reset the computer-write it off as a glitch.

however, today the oil warning decides to (briefly) get in in the act but stopped as i was pulling over to check-but my oil was ok.

is it likely that the cpu is on the way out? if so could anyone please give me an idea how much to replace one of these would be is is there likely to be a simpler and cheaper answer?

Lots of different and intermittent faults, wont be easy to pin it down, but here's what you can do.

Check battery connections. Pull each relay clean contacts and refit. Pull all fuses, clean contacts and replace. Check all major earth connection in the engine bay.

Check if the plenum chamber is clogged with debris, if it is, you might have water ingress into the wiring loom.

If all that sounds a bit daunting, I would take car to a specialist auto electrician, rather than a dealer.

Battery connections would be my guess too!

You know , may sound daft , I saw a car come in to the dealers with silly bits and bobs going off like that

Turned out , there was a mouse family been living under the bonnet and had made a bit of a mess of the wiring

The car had been sat in a garage for so long

Not saying this is your problem , just made me remember thats all

That must be common problem, as I went to my guy once and he had a Sharan VR6 in that'd suffered the same fate.. the cute lil buggers had developed a taste for the cables and so set up home! ;):D:rofl:

Oil pressure warning is a common fault on MK1 Fabia, the switch becomes faulty. Thats easy and cheap to replace though:thumbup:
