Where to buy a new battery and which one to get?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I would like to buy a new battery for my car as the one that is currently in has been so since it was manufactured (almost 9 years ago!).

Could anyone tell me what kind of battery and where I could get it from? Also how much it would cost?

Thanks!!

You want a 62Ah battery. About £47 from any decent factors.

Personally I'd go to GSF. They did a genuine Bosch battery for less than generic crap at a local factors.

Yeah, the price differential between a Bosch or a Varta one and a no-name one doesn't really justify the drop in quality. You will need a socket set with over a foot of extension to get the battery out, so unless you've already got one, it's probably worth getting your local garage to do it. The battery's held in by what I like to call 'the Impossibolt'

(Sorry if that sounds patronising, and you in fact have a Snap-On roller cabinet in your garage... :o )

I had the one in my vRS replaced with a Bosch S4 for GBP70 at my local garage, which isn't too bad, as it's a more powerful (i.e. more expensive) battery than on a petrol. I did the one on my wife's myself, however, and it took AGES. Yes, I saved 20 quid on fitting, but lost a lot of skin off my knuckles into the bargain...

Hi, I've always been a HOPPECKE devotee myself, they come with a full 3 year guarantee and once changed to Hoppecke have never had to re-replace. I think German and Swedish are a main stockist. Oh yeah, they're green in colour too.

Checked my PAS fluid last night.. I am soooo feeling that comment!

Took me ten minutes to work out that side of the battery box pulled out!

Auto-Express tested them a few years ago (063 size) and the Exide X-Tra Plus came out top. I'm not sure where you get these from. New Car Battery Reviews - AutoExpress

Second and Third was the Halfords own brand (Standard - 2nd, Advanced Calcium - 3rd). We have always bought either Lucus or Halfords. Halfords are made by Yuasa which is part of Lucus or it used to be anyway.

1. Varta Blue.

2.Exide

3.Bosch.

If possible get the largest capacity measured in Ampere Hours ,that will fit in place without

having to modify anything.

Hi get a bosch you wont regret it brilliant product dont get the cheap stuff "buy cheap buy twice"
