engine warning light!

not sorted yet.

when i have some cash at the end of the month i'll change the thermostat and hope that works! i don't have as much as 2 brass washers to rub together at the moment!

What seems illogical though is the fact that the engine isn't getting up to temp, but the fan comes on!!

When the engine does get upto temp (if sat in traffic for long etc) the fan doesn't come on!!

also, i'm sure i've read the thermostat on my model octy (BFQ engine) is ecu controlled!

I had exactly the same with mine - it was about £60 in parts to replace it. If you take the sensor and some of the thermostat out, it will run alot cooler and you won't have the risk of it overheating. I think mine was stuck closed - so my engine could have overheated!

hi

was that price for a dealer to change it, or just the parts and you did the work yourself?

Thanks

A garage did it - two hours labour on top of that (at £35 an hour), which including hooking up to the ECU, so the bill was a bit more I'm afraid. If I had I known what it was I would have done it myself. All I knew was the engine light was on, and no change in temperature on temp gauge. The garage said if it had been left the water wouldn't have been going to the radiator so it would not have cooled down if sat in traffic.

I needed the car back on one of the evenings it was in the garage, so then they removed the thermostat so I could drive it. I did about 70 miles in it without a thermostat, and the engine ran alot cooler, with both fans running, and engine light on.

Hope that helps a bit, I have got a picture which I will put on here if you want, with the part that has been changed.
