Show me your... vRS Arch Mods!

Featured Replies

I've been thinking recently that my car was broken, or that the REVO fairy had come in the middle of the night and removed my remap... until I nice cool 10'C last night and wooooosh she was off again!

Obviously science dictates that there will always be a greater oxygen per unit of air content on a nice cool night but I'm wondering if there are some heat soak issues somewhere? Maybe the intercooler?

Anyway to the point of the thread :o Can you post your arch mods so I can get a bit of inspiration. I'm a bit anal with things and want to make it look good, unfortunately I'm not great at car DIY unless I've got something to aim for :D

Thanks :)

This is mine, probably the most expensive approach...

Audi TT wheelarch vented section cut out and riveted into the existing arch.

I think it was about £19 from Audi last November.

(sorry about the red circles all over the pic this is from my guide on how to remove the intercooler!)

I have been planning to get a front mount IC at somepoint. Got so used to my remap now the cars starting to feel slow again, doesn't help in hot weather when it starts to get heat soak as well.

I like the Idea of the arch mod,but would this make much difference? The surface area of the SMIC will never really compete with a FMIC.

Heres mine. Again it was a Genuine Audi TT one.

Cut out the standard arch, then used black tiger seal to bond to the Arch with clamps to hold in place over night.

Very neat mod Bowders

Can you buy the vent panel on its own or do you have to buy the whole TT wheel arch liner and cut the panel out ?

Cheers gents, I read about people drilling and cutting slots but that is so neat I think I'll go with that approach :)

nothing wrong with the pikey option  haven't lost boost yet despite the recent heat and I'm Revo'd as well

Very neat but I can just imagine how my one would end up if I attempted that

Rob- same reply for you but substitute one ruined wheel arch liner for one ruined bumper :D

That mod does help slightly with releasing the hot air from around the standard IC and allowing air to pass from the front of the car through the vents. A number of mapped cars use this approach. At the end of the day to keep good IC temps in all climates a steady boost FMIC is typically the way to go.

Cheers mate:D

Sorry no you can't if buying the Audi TT one. You get the whole arch liner.

Then you have to cut around the vent as careful as poss to get a square shape. The front right side has the cut out due to the way the TT arch vent sits up in the wheel arch, so can't get around that. I did the Black Tiger seal as wanted it to look OEM as much as poss.

As I have the FMIC now probably does not much that much difference.

Anyone got a part no for the vented tt wheel arch? thanks. Im interested in giving this a go to see what difference it might make.

Just did this mod to my vrs. Haven't run it anywhere yet, so can't comment on how much difference it made but hey!

pics attached.

Got a bit carried away with the jigsaw on the top left :D

Was gonna sikaflex it to the arch, but couldn't find any clamps, so used screws instead.

That's ok there. does the trick.

How about one on the left side to get some extra air to the induction?

How about one on the left side to get some extra air to the induction?

No point to that. The air is coming in from the front of the car through the front grill and bumper grills up into the inner wing and through to the airbox.

The point to the intercooler side is to not let air in, but the hotter air out from the cooling effect by the intercooler to reduce heat soak.

Bowders, did your vrs have a **** load of mud and leaves behind the liner, where the drain comes down from the windscreen and collects at the bottom? Mine had almost a foot of it

NP though, washed it out and put a bit of waxoyl in there to stop rust  Did the other side too!

Yep same here. I had lots of crud in mine. Washed them out, and waxoled too:D

My car must have 2 tubs of waxoyl underneath it.

Great minds think alike, or so they say!!

Think I might have to check it every now and then. Just the thought of it festering there makes me cringe!

sorry to bump and old topic but I was wondering if this mod would work on a Fabia vRS? Thanks, Ben.

If it's got a side mounted intercooler in the same place as the Octavia then I can't see why not.
