Do I have an alarm system?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Just bought a 2006 Octavia II. There is a blinking LED on the driver's door when the car is locked, the blinkers flash twice during remote lock/unlock too. Do I have an alarm system (with siren), acting on open doors, or the blinking LED just warns for an active immobiliser? How can I test the siren (if there is any at all)?

Which 3-symbol manufacturer code mark the availability of the alarm system in the car?

Thank you very much.

One way to tell is to look for a button part way down the B-pillar on the driver's side. If you have a factory alarm the function is to switch off the motion sensors and anti-tilt sensor.

Another more empirical test is to leave a window down, lock the car, wait for a minute, then wave your hand inside to see if it has motion sensors or not.

IIRC if the car is locked via a remote button (usually one press) and you unlock it with a key blade in the driver's side door lock (ie manually), then open the door, the alarm is supposed to go off after 30 seconds or so if you don't put the key in the ignition.

For my 2008 build Octy the "PR number" (build code) and description was :

7AH Electronic vehicle immobilization device with alarm system, passenger compartment control and backup horn

Hope that helps.

Your car should be fitted with an alarm. A simple test is to get someone to sit in the car then lock the car with the remote. When the person inside the car moves about the alarm should go off. Check the handbook, but I think if you press the remote a few seconds after locking the car it disables the motion sensors, in case you have a dog in the car and the windows are open.

Unfortunately there is no button on the driver's side, and I can't find the 7AH code at the plate. Tried all your hints to activate the siren with no success. Probably my car has an immobiliser only with a blinking LED on the driver's door and no siren.

Do you have an idea where the factory siren should be mounted?

My car has the code "7AL- Anti-theft alarm system, passenger compartment control, backup horn and towing protection". I did not opt for the towing protection when the car was ordered.

Another way to test the alarm will be....

Unlock the drivers door with the key in the lock, like the olden days, unlock it so you unlock ALL the car, then open the back door. That ALWAYS sets the alarm off.

Also depends what country you're in.

AFAIK all Mk2 Octy's bar the classic (ambient as well?) have the alarm. My 07 UK Elegance certainly has.

Iv,e got an 06 Ambiente and mine has got one.

OP has an Elegance so surely must have? Must be the button down on the B pillar?

Depends on their country. Some countries it's not standard spec item.
