Bit an odd one this, but can the console bushes fail suddenly?

As far I as I had thought, the only symptoms would be a knocking / clunking from the suspension, but this afternoon I suddenly find myself with an odd "loose" sensation from the front, almost as if the camber (rather than the toe as I would expect if this bush had collapsed) suddenly changes - only happens going round corners and it just doesn't feel right.

I've never heard of any bush to fail in any way other than perishing through age, but having seen the voids in the console bushes, I'm wondering if their inner structure might have collapsed?

What would be the non-audiable signs - being able to rock the wheel front to back? Anything else?

It's a bit odd. I may have to drive slower tomorrow...

Would feel "sloppy" to drive, especially during cornering.

I would get the wheels off and have a proper look, I thought my bushes had failed last week, and like you I wondered if they could fail suddenly, but it turned out to be a broken wishbone.

Due to a poor repair my last Fabia had several bushes all fail at the same time (tension in the setup that shouldn't have been there).. The steering was very sloppy and couldn't really feel anything back from the road.

But in the interest of safety I'd take the above advice and have a good poke around before going any further in it..
