I have been out in my car this afternoon and everything was fine but when I started the car tonight the handbrake warning light remained on and as I drove the warning sounds started bonging away. What is the problem?

You left the handbrake on or the switch that detects hand brake operation is stuck in the operated postion.

Check your brake fluid as well, just in case.

Job now done. The RAC did it in about 15 minutes. All it was was the microswitch that had slightly moved.
