2003 TDi110 Elegance Cruise Control.....

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if my car may have the capability for cruise control? A friend of mine has a VW Caravelle and he simply bought a new indicator stalk with cruise control switches from his local TPS. He had the function enabled by a local garage using VCDS and hey presto, he now has cruise control.

I may do the same on my Octavia if it can be done as easily.......

Yes you can, you need the switch and wiring loom..

We supply and fit for £160

Thanks for that. My mate bought the kit for £54 and fitted it himself. I'll do the same......

Just note as Lummox said there is a loom needed on the Octavia. This goes from the switch through to the ECU. You are therefore required to remove the wipers, scuttle pannel and a few bits to get it through. Then you require the coding changed.

In that case I might not bother. Even though I do have VCDS I don't know what the code is......

I thought the diesel Octavia already had the wiring loom? It's just the petrol engine that needs the extra wiring as far as I know.

The coding is really easy. Instructions on the web and just one ecu write required. The only tricky part of installing on the tDI is removing the steering wheel to fit the stalk.

The TDi has the wiring from the ECU to the connection point under the wipers, not into the car though.

Coding is simple, just enter 11463 into login.

Cheers, could you point in the direction to find it? Ta......

Yes you're right, thats what I was getting confused with. My 1.8T needed the extra wiring to the ECU as well as the loom to the stalk.

Thanks for that. How do you find all the codes, and can you tell me where I can find them?......

Working in the dealer network for 10 years, its how I found them.

Cheers for that. I worked in a Vauxhall dealership for 15 years from 1980-1995, and for the AA and then the RAC from 1995-2007. Things have moved on a bit since then though.....

It wasnt meant to sound how I realise it kinda does. VAG stuff is quite difficult even for techs to get info on sometimes. We used to get paper manuals for the workshop that would take you through programming etc and they listed codes. But now its all computerised and they have removed a lot of the techs input and gone with a nice safe diagnostic system thats hides everything behind touch screen masks.

Luckily enough most of the important ones are in my head or in my note book

Not much has changed then it that respect. Vauxhall used to be very sparse with their information too, and in fact I recall one time when we had a running problem with Corsa and eventually turned to Vauxhall Motors for help because despite all our efforts we just could not locate the fault. Vauxhall's answer was "we don't know what the fault is either, but when you do find it please let us know 'cos we've got another 200 just the same"......
