Optimax Or Normal Unleaded ???

Featured Replies

Being a new member and owner of Oct vRS can anyone shed a little light on the subject of fueling?

My dealer reckons on Optimax all the time:confused:

Will it really enhance the performance or is it a gimick to obtain more money for the govenment...........

Welcome to the forums Mr Peck :D

There has literally just been a lengthy discussion about using Optimax, Super Unleaded or Unleaded and some say they find that with Optimax/SUL the engine runs just a bit smoother... But it might just be the placebo effect ;)

Do a search for it and all will be revealed.

Q.

Have a search - there's a recent thread on this with various views !

My view after 25k on SUL/Optimax in a Subaru is that SUL is more consistent and (for me) safer.

I'm running normal unleaded most of the time now in the Octavia

Mr Peck

Welcome to Briskoda! You can use 95 ron UL with no ill-efects , the only thing you will lose is a few BHP. For the full performance you need the 98 ron SUL or Optimax , whichever you prefer. I wonder if anyone has figured a vRS on a rolling road with SUL then 95 ron , just to see how much BHP you actually lose with normal UL. If it was say 1 BHP there would be no point in using SUL , but if it was around 10BHP then maybe youd be better with 98 ron...

Thanks for the info. I've just been looking at some of the mods other members have made to their cars and there are some very interesting variations from the norm.

Mr Peck

Welcome. I can't get the search to work at present (must find out if Colin knows about this) but the latest discussion on Optimax is just here

We use 95 RON almost all the time and there more than enough bhp there:drive: Didn't really notice any difference on super.

been using optimax for my last 2 tank fulls & imho i have noticed a difference especially at lower speeds, it seems to run smoother ,not so jerky, i,ll be sticking with it a little longer.

regds ect

My RS has only ever used 95 ron, never seen a drop of SUL or optimax in its 34k mile life. Its going on a RR at the weekend so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Manny, ask Mike at Jabba about petrol - he started telling me the day of my remap but I think he has a lot of knowledge to share. Let us know afterwards....

Will be very interesting to see how much of the 180 bhp she puts out.:)

My micra responds well to a drop of optimax:drive1:

I've done nearly 2500 miles and always used Optimax. I think after reading the big debate of SUL v Unleaded i think it is time to save a few pennies per litre and try the normal unleaded. :drive1:
