VRS Gearbox Baulks going into 3rd and 5th

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just went to look at an 05 Octavia VRS Estate today, it will maybe be my first Skoda!!

The car was great apart from the fact that the gearbox was occasionally difficult to engage 3rd at the first attempt and also 5th. It didn't crunch or anything like that just felt as though it hit a rubber stop of some type, then went in on 2nd attempt.

Does it have a bush or something?

Now the dealer said they will look at it and hopefully fix but just wanted to check it wasn't signs of something bad happening.

It's only got 39K on the clock.

Cheers

Alot of them do this, mine does sometimes. Less now that I adjusted the shift cables though.

I have it in 3rd, and sometimes even 1st. Not had it in 5th before.

Replacing the cable ends is easy enough, and changing the gear oil is suppsed to help, but I think it's just a characteristic of the box.

Yup, feature of the cable shift. My wife notices it more than I do TBH but I think that is because she drives it less often than I do. You get used to it pretty quickly.

Worst case, I exect the cables might need adjustment. Seems highly unlikely any damage will have been done at only 39k (provided it's not been remapped or messed around with an any other way).

Cheers,

Cheers Guy's,

I have spoken with the previous owner, he said he never noticed it, he said that it has had a fairly easy life, spent ages on the phone to him, he regretted selling it but has now got a New VRS Diesel.

Hopefully Garage will get it adjusted a bit and all will be ok.

Hi,

Good news, the Garage has managed to adjust ther gear linkage and now shifts fine apparently, so deposit placed.

Should be the owner of a VRS this time next week once Cam belt and Water pump replaced.

Thanks for your assistance.

This was my first post on the forum and really appreciate the responses and look forward to contibuting myself in the future.

When I first got my vRS I ballsed up 2nd to 3rd almost everytime when doing quick shifts. As you say, no drama but the stick just goes into a dead no mans land. Soon got used to it though.
