Felicia Turbo Update & need help!

Featured Replies

Hi

Got the 1.6mpi engine now in,had to weld in some nuts to body to accept different engine mounts, use the 1.6 exhaust ecu. The thing will fire nice and strong but dies straight away.its like an electrical fault stopping the engine from ideling. As said the ecu is for this engine so in theory should work.any ideas out threre as to why it wont run???? so close to get this back on road cant fail at this biggest hurdle!!!

use vagcom.

select, immo 25, adaption 10, channel 00 and write 000 to that channel then, ignition key off then on then jobs a good'n

By the way this is a really stupid question.......Do i have to link up my laptop to the ECU to input the info sent to me? if so do i need a special adaption plug???im a straight meet n 2 veg guy so computer interface is not my thing....like trying to get into womens psychology....woooooooooo....shudder!!!

:orb_no_no

you'll need a copy of vagcom on your laptop to start with. then you'll need the cable to connect it to the car. the port is under the dash somewere.

Sent car to my local skoda dealer who are saying that the car is worth scrapping because they cant resolve the ecu issue regarding coding. They just havent got a clue.they even told me that the ecu that I now have in my car is not for that engine but for something else other than a skoda!!!! I told them that the engine and the ecu came out of the salvage felicia and have just been paired up in my felicia.oh and by the way does the giant skoda sticker on the ECU give it away that it is a skoda ecu??? they are hopeless and they charge £60 per hr!!! my 5yr old girl could have told them this stuff.

the skoda dealer is talking carp then, end of.

if you need it jaxn, i have a 1600 felicia ecu sat on the shelf in my garage, wherabouts are you from??

Hi Teflon

Thank for the offer. Im in Peterborough. I put my life on the fact that both the engine imobolizer and ECU are abs fine. Skoda rang me today and quouted £1200 plus labour+vat that would give me a new engine ecu and imobolizer system. I would expect a break in Dubai and a live private set from Girls Aloud for that!!! I downloaded VAG.COM and purchased a cable which I got today. will take my laptop and cable down there and have a go myself whilst is still in their garage.:)

to access channel 0 on the immo block you need a registered version of vag-com, you can register it on ross tech's website but i think it takes a few days for them to send you the activation code.. unfortunately you need to test it on a car first unriegistered before the software will allow you into the activation screen

i'm presuming the the immo box and key are a matched set that came from the original car? to recode the key to the immo box you need a login code and the 4 digit pin code. but if they are already a matched set (they would be if they came from a running car) then it's just select, immo 25, adaption 10 channel 00, read then write, ignition off then on. also before you begin this sequence you need to erase the fault codes from the engine (01) & immo(25) i think.

I did notice that today,as I got so close then was denied on registered grounds!!! was at the skoda dealer today where the mechanics branded the car as "scrap mate" the key and barrel are not a match to the engine/imob/ecu however I can get hod of the original key and ignition barrel. will try at weekend when I have the car back in possesion.

Thanks

ok, the key needs to match the barrel for obvious reasons, and the chip inside the key needs to match the code in the immo unit.

the procedure i've given you above is purely for matching the ecu to the immo box. it makes no odds what car the ecu came from so long as it has the correct soft coding (occasionally they use different fuel injectors and/or fuel pressures and the coding is designed to suit). the ecu in my pickup is from a 16v polo and that matched up perfect

Im gonna take the ignition barrel out of the salvage 1.6 and the key to match and install into my current car.fingers crossed that will work.

yeah you will need the immo box from the donor car too

ok I cant wait to get this done.Just to clarify.....where is the imobolizer situated?

it's behind the instrument cluster, it's a little black box about 100mm square, it has 2 little 3 pin connectors (iirc:O) one connector goes to the dash loom/ecu k-line connection, and the other goes to the key reader coil on the end of the ignition switch via a short length of cable

Not being pedantic, but I think it's one 6-pin connector (to the main loom) and a 3-pin to the immo sensor ring. ;) If you take the shroud off the bottom of the steering column, you can see the immo box, to the left (looking forwards) of the steering column, you'll see the two plugs.

Getting it out requires more dismantling though!

:DHi all!!

Well.....I walkedinto the skoda garage payed £160 for nothing and walked to my car which was parked out the back amongst the trade in scrap which looked like it was splattered with oil and dust????? replaced the imob.....15mins the engine was started and running sweet much to the amazement of the technicians. All good now so many thanks for your advice.stage 2 on the turbo up next!

I would like to have seen the look on their faces as you drove out in the car and up the road.

well done, if you need any help or advice on turbocharging i'm always here. although i think the help you've received so far is got to be worth a £12 freedom membership fee?? optional of course:O

And the moral of the story is...? ;)

i would have been tempted to walk back in and ask for my money back, as you have been charged the hourly rate for a trained tech, but have obviasly not recived this service.

:iagree: given that a bunch of untrained amateurs on the Interweb managed to diagnose the problem correctly without even seeing the car.

I was given similarly poor tech advice from a Skoda garage when trying to fix my rev counter. They told me I needed a new distributor as the sensor for the rev counter was in there. They were right to a point but had obviously neglected to realise that mine wasn't a 1.6!

They can be a bit blind to whats in front of them sometimes and don't think of things logically so seem to miss the trick.

Glad you got it sorted though. Would love to have seen the look on their faces.

I would at least be asking for a portion of that money back tbh.

Phil

the main dealers are a bit simple! if it doesent show a fault on the laptop its not broke.
