Blackberry losing connection with Columbus: Quick Fix!!! :)

Featured Replies

Hi guys, going back slightly. For anyone having issues with the Blackberry Bold losing connectivity I think I may have the fix. I read on a post recently that someone else had no problems for 4 weeks then suddenly one day it wouldn't connect.

This happened to me and I went out of my way to find out how to fix it without deleting the profile and having to set up the short-cuts again every 4 weeks.

Solution: enter Blackberry Bold Bluetooth options screen, click Blackberry soft key, select options, scroll down, un-check "SIM Access Profile", click blackberry key, select Save, re-check "SIM Access Profile", then click save

Only tried it once but it brought mine back to life at next connection attempt.

PM me and let me know if it works for people. :)

UPDATE

The next time this occurred the above did not work...next fix to try is to download 'Quick Pull' program that simulates pulling the battery out and doing a full reset of the Blackberry. This can be found in the Blackberry App World. Seems that if you turn the Bluetooth off then reset then turn Bluetooth back on the Columbus will connect up again. Have set mine to schedule a reset at 6:00am every morning...hopefully will stop these annoying connection failures.

  • 11 months later...

I recently got a Superb & changed my phone to the BOLD. Bizarrely, although my daughter's BOLD works perfectly in the car, mine does not.

The difference seems to be in the Bluetooth settings. In hers the boxes Desktop Connectivity & Wireless bypass are ticked. In mine they are greyed out & will not tick.

According to our IT department Blackberry have changed the 'firmware' and this prevents the phone from working. The firmware on the phone that works is...

(Platform 5.1.0.146), on mine - which won't work - it is (Platform 5.1.0.153).

To check press options & then about & scroll down.

It could also be your company Blackberry policy is blocking the changing of those settings, I know my employers blackberrys are heavily locked down to the point that even the cameras and memory card slot are disabled. Typically when options are removed they disappear altogether, a greyed out option usually means its policy disabled.
