the Meg in Meguairs.......

Featured Replies

Does it stand for "Meg-a pain to in the bum to use"??

I purchased some megs stuff recently to give claying my car a go. i like to wash my car and wash it well when i do get round to doing it. ive always used Autoglym on my old car and on the octavia. But wanted to try this claying business as ive seen good results also i used Swirl-x. These products are okay, tho i did scratch my bonnet with the clay as it had a bit oh grit in it .

anyways , i finished off with some Gold class wax and i was pretty fudging disappointed, it was such a streaky pain in the bum to get off. i pushed the car out of my lock up into the natural light and i thought it looked awful. it started to get dark and i got it looking okay but will have to wait and see in the sun.

Anyone else had this kind of problem? im disapointed tbh and ive never been that frustrated waxing / polishing a car. stupid black cars....

Get some victoria concourse wax..expensive, but STUNNING on black !

Gold class is a very good wax, but a common mistake is applying too much product, and you get streaking. You only need a couple of pea size blobs of wax on a foam applicator pad, per panel. Either that or the initial prep stage wasn't good enough.

could be marring from the clay???

If you apply a tiny bit ( of any product really ) and it doesn't look good enough, just apply a tiny bit more.

If you apply too much it's a sod to get off, and can appear patchy.

This applies to painting interior doors in your house as well, and can lead to buying new carpets, being in the doghouse for weeks AND having to pay for a proper decorator out of your beer money.....( as well as spending half a day getting paint off the dog and the cat..)

I know that was OT, but hey, it's good advice, believe me....

well i came out this morning to check out the motor and it looked blooming brilliant :D , few odd marks but im chuffed. i think the part about me puttng to much on was probably correct , usually i use AG SRP and i dolop it on. will be using the megs again and hopefully get the nack of putting it on down to a fine art. having the car looking good just makes its wheels look worse those. they are kerbed a bit (not by me) and have been refurbed in the past and its starting to flake badly now :(

You're doing it wrong.

Never, ever had a problem with any Meguire's product!

Sounds like you didn't apply enough quick detailer when claying. As people have said, little is better for the wax but claying does need good lubrication. :)

I found the same with Bilt-Hamber autobalm- the first time I used it it looked really patchy and was very hard work to buff. Then I saw some reccomendations on a forum (maybe DW?) about using hardly any at a time, and it was much better.

Agreed one of the most forgiving products on the market!
