can you not drive normally? or do you have to use this technique to be able to drive

It won't let you as when you hit the brake pedal it will cut the engine power.

This is a so called safety feature on all VAG cars with electronic throttles. It has been discused many times on here before, it can not be disabled. When both the brake and thottle peddles are pressed at the same time, the throttle is cut off. This not only means you can not 'Heal and Toe' nor can you 'Left Foot Brake'. :rotz:

I once discussed this with Paul Buckett, VW's UK Press Manager. I was gobsmacked when he explained it was a "safety" feature.

Try explaining that to the white van that was riding my rear bumper as I tried the old "flash the brake lights with the left foot while accelerating hard with the right" trick for the first time in a VAG car (a 9N Polo). I don't know whose pants were messier at the end of that little episode.

Heel and toe shouldn't be a problem as it listens to the last input. I don't have problems heel and toe braking in my Octavia, or in my old A4. Feck, I could even manage it in my diesel Bora if I could keep my foot across for long enough for the revs to build.

The throttle pedal is just too short and far away from the brake pedal.

I am the only one with this issue?

Could someone tell me how you drive " heel and toe" and how I have managed without knowing this technique , cheers

You need either,

1,Clown shoes...

2, A clowns mentality

3, A much faster car....

Oops, good timing Mr G.

Mellyboy - see here: Heel-and-toe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thanks Ive driven cars ,coach's ,driven all over europe with out heel and toe I don't think I need to start now. I have heard of it of course thought it was only done by rally drivers etc.

I always rev up and change down in any car. It is essentail to make the gear change quick and smooth. petrol/ diesel doesn't make a differance, its all about being smooth. but when you are wanting to break gear overlap then the next thing is start toe and healing. this is possible in the Fabia but the problem is that when you start using firmer breaking the throttle is cut. so for normal driving this is ok, but when flying it can be tempremental. wish this could be disabled.

That is some thread revival there. Is it a record?

In a Mkii vRS, you are effectively 'heel and toeing' when you brake and knock down the gears manually.

The system even 'blips' the throttle for you.

It's a great system for sporting driving.

Tony

All DSG boxes match engine speed to flywheel speed on any down change before the clutch is engaged. Doesn't matter what mode you are in or what engine you have.

It is why down changes are not instant like upchanges as the box will always disengage clutch, increase engine speed then engage clutch. Some models have a throttle blip programmed in to give a sporty feel in manual mode but it's only for show as the ecu always matches engine and gearbox speeds on downchanges.

Cheers
