Cam follower after 84k

Featured Replies

I had a quick look at my cam follower last night just to put my mind at rest after hearing all the horror stories. The top coating has gone but the metal underneath is still quite thick, I was quite pleased. This is from a standard pump, i have the autotech internals to fit after remap and have a new follower ordered for then.

It looks very good.

I think they are supposed to have a black protective glaze from new but yes there is a good thickness left.

I think I'd be changing that ASAP. No need to wait for a remap to install the internals.

But there would be no power increase would there? so no point I guess.

The pump will work fine without the map.

The reason I said to put it in when you change the follower is because it can be a pain to take the pump out. I'm guessing on an 07 you have one rigid and one flexi pipe to the pump which is better than the two rigid.

It's difficult to make out too much from the pics but it looks to me like the surface hardening has gone from the follower and hence my suggestion to swap it out ASAP.

You are correct, one rigid and one flexi pipe. Yes part of the surface hardener has gone so i may take your advice to be on the safe side, thanks.

I think for the sake of £20 it's almost an insurance policy. If they fail it can be costly.
