What Polishing Machine?

Featured Replies

Hi guys i am looking at buying a polishing machine, and would like to know what machine you would recomend for starting machine polishing for the first time.

I was looking at the megs G220 kit.

Meguiars G220 - Complete Meguiars Kit

And i want to know if this kit will remove sanding marks, because i have sanded few panels down on my mum car and i want to polish them out. or will i have to buy some wool pads and one last thing what polishing compounds would you recomend for my skoda fabias paint

Thanks

:D

I went straight in and got the Kestrel DAS-6. Heard good things about the G220 as well but also heard stories of a fair few packing in as well. Only heard of one DAS-6 packing up prematurely.

VAG paint is quite hard, so probably 3M products and pads would be best. Check out threads by Baker21 on Skoda detailing work. G220 is OK by I would go for the DAS-6 as it's a bit more reliable.

cheers i will have look at those threads

what polish should i get for removing light swirls and some RDS for the first time

I'm also using the Kestral DAS-6, have only ever used a Rotary before this (luckily i didnt burn through)

Good build quality and more than capable of delivering more performance than required.

I have a Porter Cable and it's been spot-on. Doesn't get a massive amount of use though, maybe 6 details per year??

I'd seriously consider the Kestrel if I were looking now. For polish/pad combos, I use Lake Country waffle pads and the Menzerna range. Menz was recommended to me back in the day by Rich at Polished Bliss and it's been working well for me ever since, especially on German and VAG paint.

There's obviously dozens of others, but these are the ones I use regularly, who have good stock and who you consistently get good service from.

Yes the DAS-6 does come with a handle, but i find its much easier to hold the unit by leading edge of the polisher.
