Rubbing/grinding noise in 1st?

Featured Replies

OK..bear with me cause this one is hard to explain!

I reverse out of my driveway...then put the car into 1st to pull off. As I am pulling away there is almost a rubbing/grinding noise which makes the car vibrate slightly, then its stops.

It feels as if it is occuring in one of the front wheels almost??

This problem does not occur when I am pulling away in 1st gear from a standstill at junctions!

Seems very odd...anyone have any ideas on this??

Thanks!

Does it happen in any other gears, and only when the clutch is engaged? Does it happen if you pull off in 2nd, for example?

I havent noticed it in any other gears. I pulled away in 2nd yesterday (by accident, lol) and it juddered but only because i was not giving it enough gas!

It doesnt happen when I pull away normally in 1st even.

I've only heard & felt it after I have come out of reverse and into 1st to pull away.

I thought something might be rubbing steering wise, but when I was in the carpark today, I turned the wheel fully both ways, and nothing!

Sticking brake caliper.

Try, by not applying your handbrake overnight, as said, could be sticking rear caliper??

OH! ensure car will not roll away with hand-brake off, place brick under wheels, face front wheels towards edge etc, get the picture. LOL

Good-luck, let us all know. Ian. 04/09/2009. :D:thumbup:
