Variety of advice please...

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have been doing a bit of research locally to find places to get work done to my car when I'm ready.

I found a place in Thurrock called AMD, has anybody used them??

What are they like?? They offer REVO remap facilities, again does anybody have one of these maps and have they had problems with it?? AMD is a stockist of powerflex bushes. my wishbone bushes are starting to deteriorate so a replacement set is due soon. Again I'd like some feedback on theses bushes?? Any good? How is ride affected??

Also I have found a supplier of reasonably priced VREDESTEIN tyres. again has anybody any experience of these tyres, I believe they only do one tyre in the standard VRS size, could be called a Sportrak 2 but I'm not sure on that one. Any feedback on these would also be very welcome.

Finally, I've recently bought a Reg Number from DVLA, I'm posting the paperwork and documents today but need to find a supplier of show plates so I'm all set to fit them the day my authorisation comes through. Any recommendations folks.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give me on these topics. Gonna go and get ready for work now.... DOH!

i *think* you might have to buy show plates from somewhere like Ireland as its now illegal for any plate supplier in the UK to make them, or something along those lines lol

The wishbone has a front and a rear bush. Its the rear one ("console bush") which causes problems. Replace it with the Seat Cupra bush (6LL407183). It can be done DIY but you need to make up special tools. Its cheap but an independent will charge about £100 to fit them. The front Powerflex ones are split and easy to fit but the originals are awkward to remove. There are threads on how to do it on this site.

I have a stage 1 generic Revo map - I think it was done at Jabba Sport by previous owner. Map is excellent IMHO with good progressive power and still returns healthy mpg. I have recently found out the good thing about Revo is the company only charge £50 to upgrade your map to stage 2 as Ive been enquiring about having it done and also to map out my CEL light.

Downside with my stage 1 map, after 1 week of having it fitted the car had to have a Sachs clutch as the OEM one was slipping. Cant say it's been the same for everyone but this is what happened to mine.

*UPDATE*

Got numberplates today from local spares shop. £24 the set.

BRISKODA numberplate surrounds ordered.

Any more info about the tyres/remaps/revo/bushes folks??

Thanks.

I've been running an AmD Generic "one-click" remap on my Fabia for about the last 95k.

Absoloutely no problems with it. When I had my car remapped they were based in Bicester AmD as it is now is part of a bigger parent company Big Boys Toys IIRC. et Voila!!

Whats a "one click" re map?? I didn't know there were different types of re map??

Its all a bit confusing to me, I don't wanna blow a load of dosh and knacker my ride at the same time!!

Don't apologise, we all have to learn from somwhere.

One-click is the name given by AmD to a switchable re-map i.e. you can switch between standard map and performance map by plugging the little gizmo into the OBD port. Particularly handy for servicing and the like if you're still "in warranty". In truth it's a bit more than "one-click" and takes about 5 minutes to re-write the map.

Other tuners do switchanlbe maps, Revo select switch for example.

With regards to "types" of remap. For the most part either:

Generic: a "cut and paste" map giving a fixed increase in BHP and Torque for your particular engine type (my one-click is generic) AFAIK Revo are generic maps. Does not usually factor in other mods etc.

Custom: as the name suggests, a custom map usually including rolling road time to gain the most from your particular car taking into consideration, age, mileage, other performance mods, and customer preference for power delivery etc. Plenty of company's offering custom maps including, Jabba, P-torque, AmD, Unit18/Motech.
