I'm after an Octavia 1.8TSI/1.8TFSI

Had the Avensis D4-D 2.2 TR which was a very comfortable car with plenty of torque. Although the diesel sounded a bit rattly from the outside, it was very quiet inside the cabin.

Was obviously well insulated and I believe even the windscreen had double insulation. Looks wise, it was subjective though, a love it or hate it scenario.

Putting any bias to one side, I'd choose the Octy (F/L) over it every time.

If he's opting out of the company car scheme and taking a car allowance then they will almost certainly expect him to run a car of a certain standard with it , and an old 306 might not count.

As I said before , there's a lot to be said for taking a company car - no extra debt or financial commitments and no worries about if it goes wrong.

Very true, considering all options. TBH I was just thinking in pure purchasing terms. What are the terms of the CC car scheme Tom? Is it fairly restrictive in terms of make/model/spec/options? (if you want to post about it of course).

I was a company car driver for over 10 years until March 2008, when I opted out of the company car and took cash allowance.

Yes you have a finance agreement hanging around you (job loss/sickness etc is easily insured against for a negligable amount per month), but the flexiibility to pick and choose when you change etc outweighs it IMO.

Best thing I ever did :)
