Water in Octy Doors and in Boot Seal

Featured Replies

After my car has been parked in the rain for a while when I open the doors I see water draining out of holes in the bottom of the doors - 2 holes in the front doors and 1 in the back door. Sometimes there seems to be quite a lot of water there (Probably 4 or 5 seconds flow). My driveway slopes upwards, so the car is pointed uphill while parked so some may be unable to drain out of the doors due to the slope, but I've never seen this before (Didn't happen in the '00 Octy I had before and parked the same way anyway). Is this something I should be worried about?

Weirder still is that water is also somehow managing to collect in the hollow tube section of the rubber boot seal. After opening the boot there's a small pool of water in the back left of the boot seal, just between the seal and the plastic inner lip of the boot. None gets into the boot (All car carpets and the wheel well are dry) and all the air holes in the seal point towards the inside of the car, so I've no idea how the water is getting in. Running my fingers along the seal I can squirt water out of the air holes in the seal to empty it, but there doesn't seem to be any route water could be able to take to get in there in the first place. It's not a leaking wiper nozzle supply either, just rainwater.

I tool the plastic lining off the inside of the boot lid and its completely dry in there, so it's not getting in through the boot lid (Or the rear window seal thankfully) either. There are no visible cracks or holes in the rubber of the boot seal, all there are are air holes (To allow the hollow section of the seal to compress as the boot closes) and they're all pointed to the inside of the car, so I'm at a loss to explain what's going on.

One other thing I noticed is that there's a lot of wind noise from the car at 60-70mph. It seems to come from the back of the car and is slightly more noticeable when the back seats are folded down. It's easily audible over the tyre noise and engine while A road and motorway cruising. Might this be linked to the leak or is the wind noise one of the features I'll live with since no other car I've found matches the Octy for my requirements?

i get the door thing too... is it bad thing - i thought it was part of the design?

(not checked my boot) :)

You only need to be worried about the doors leaking water into the car as opposed to it draining out when you open them. If water is sat 'on top' of the door seals when you open them it normally suggests it's getting in - it's an old problem that these cars suffer from. The mats may feel dry but the carpets are normally not, right at the bottom.
