The 1st service and then RAC needed

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just a quick post to vent my feeling with the local dealer and maybe to sever as a warning to others to check things over after coming back from the dealer:

My car had it's 1st service last week, all ok and paid etc and the local dealer (not where bought car from) was a totally happy experience, I thought until today!

Went to pop in some screen wash and the weekly check of oil and noticed a large amount of brake fluid leaking from around container! no warming light on yet but a serous amount seeping out.

Anyway called the RAC breakdown service (2 hours:eek:) - he came and Dealer turns out checked brake fluid and undid the container but in the process did't put the lid back right! Not to mention my paint could have been ruined but the loss of brake fluid is no laughing matter…. Mr RAC re toped up and tightened the brake fluid container so now ok but it really makes you wonder? the basic 1st lesson that must be for any mechanic "check tops tight" and I know all can make mistakes but….

Told the dealer and he said sorry but really enough - not after any real cash off but maybe a free bottle of screen wash? or is this asking too much? The dealer did waste 2 hours of my time. What do other members think?

James.

Sorry to read that and could have been a lot worse had you not noticed. After mine was serviced i check all the things they do before actually taking my car but like yourself we trust our dealers with our cars and hope all is well.

What you are asking for doesn,t seem too much and i hope you get a good result

It's a bit difficult this as I do think you are entitled to some compensation as they didn't do the work competently (whether or not the consequences could have been serious).

However once word gets out that they are compensating people then you would get some owners (hopefully not many but maybe a signifcant number) who would make false claims in the hope of getting something.

I did hear of a story of a BWM that dropped all its oil because the mechanic hadn't tightened the sump plug up after a service.

You can ony avoid it happening again by checking what they've done, I suppose the caps of fluid containers are simple enough but would you really want to go round checking things like wheel nuts, suspension bolts etc outside the dealers workshop before paying for your service ?

In two mind as to name and shame as they are the only dealer around and if any thing goes wrong. But they did muck it up. But I know other dealers do a lot worse but I thought *a lot* better of the local dealer and Skoda

he charged £128 (fixed) for this work so I do feel job not done right. But he did say sorry and own up but still

Do as i did on a previous occassion , and asked them to do a recheck service on everything , mine was a problem with the oil so i requested they refill and check , as on previous they had overfilled , you pay for a service and expect a proper one any faults found then re quality assurance what else may not have been done correctly . May seem severe but hey they may not have tightened any of the other connectors as well ,

Its a Service and should be fault free oterwise Reject it back to them .:thumbdwn:

It was FH Winter on the Isle of Wight. The company have been (up to now) very helpful and with old fashioned values, he said sorry but i would like him to offer this but he did't and that was it... RAC fixed the problem and they don't care even though dealer (FH Winter) mucked it up, and it comes down to trust, like you said what else have you missed. I really thought they would be different been family run and all.

So this leaves me with the only option to go to mainland garages for all servicing etc. Which I will now do thanks to this. And I have lodged this with Skoda UK .

Good move James

I would recommend Meadens Skoda of Sway in Brockenhurst.A fantastic garage and the service is 100% everytime.Quite near to Lymington ferry

Why not try and service it yourslf? Other than warranty issues, you know the jobs been done right.

Hi All,

Just a quick update on this. Letter today from Skoda UK, say very sorry and.... they will pay for next service bar ware and tear items! Not bad

James.

These things happen, I opened the bonnet on my mum's Toyota a WEEK after it's service to check the washer bottle level and found the brake fluid lid was missing entirely.

Not only would the Toyota garage not admit fault, they turned round and told her it was "not a safety issue anyway".

We dont use them any longer!!!!

I wouldn't have expected checking the brake fluid level needing removal of the reservoir lid, unless fluid needed adding. I'll double check mine before service (and after), just in case. I usually find if the level isn't easy to see through the reservoir, nudging the car so the fluid sloshes makes it easy to see.
