FABIA VRS O4 Drivers window Guestimate Price

Featured Replies

OK I will try you good folks for an answer

I have asked this twice in Ask a tech and it just vanishes into thin air

My fabia vrs 04 drivers window

It comes partway up and at the front it is rolling up a rubber chanel, once this gets tight about halfway up the pinch motor kicks into reverse and takes the window back down

After many hours using a steel rule at the front of the window down the chanel I eventually managed to get the window to run to the top without rolling up this rubber

(necessity can not leave the car open/drive in the rain/leave parked at work)

I tried to attempt a repair, but I can not even get the door card off, then looking at pics on here realised that even if I did I would have to remove a plate with dozens of rivets before I even got to see the window glass and runners

I reckon it would be cheaper to hack through from the outside and get a new door skin, looking at the labour costs to go in the correct way

Any guestimate of what it would cost to have the repair done

or advice other than never use it again

About £120 at a dealer. Door card is awkward, and needs some brute force to get it off. Riveted carrier is a bit of a nuisance but rivets can be drilled out, and special rivet gun that takes the large rivets available from most tool factors.

Not sure I understand the 'rolling up the rubber' bit of your problem. Is the glass physically snagging on the touch seal? If the glass is snagging on seals, it's likely one of the pins that holds the glass in the carrier arm is broken.

Anyway, I think the parts are about £90+fitting and the dreaded VAT.

get some PTFE lube and with the window glass down , spray the lube down the channels either side of the glass , it should now move more freely

I took one aprt the other day, took about 10min to remove the aluminum panel. Only a case of drilling the rivets out. A new door skin sounds like a ridiculous idea

Didn't the pre 2006 fabia's have bolts rather than rivets?

my 04 deffo has bolts

54 plate had rivets, changed on the facelift

Tried that, but it is something physical

And as I do not know what is exactly behind the panel, I do not know what it is I should see

Yeah it would seem a ridiculous idea, but it is the unknown that is the problem,

What it might be that is causing my jam,

Are there rubber guides the window slides up and down, or is the rubber seal just at the top of the door where the glass appears

Here is my amateur drawing of what appears to be happening

You know when I eventually pluck up courage and do the job

I will take photos and provide a guide The Haynes manuals need better quality printing/paper as the pictures are too dark,/rough to be of any use

I bought the Haynes Skoda Fabia manual, Three times the price and a fifth of the knowledge of a BRISKODA Subscription

Thanks National
