Questions to aid a potential purchase

Featured Replies

My dad has shortlisted the Octavia L&K Estate 2.0 CR 140 for a replacement for his ageing Volvo V70 estate.

I have been tasked with finding the answers to the following options/specification questions to determine whether it loses out to an excellent deal (20% off when trading in an old volvo) on a new Volvo estate.

1. L&K comes with light leather interior as standard which I understand is Embossed? Is it possible to spec a dark/black leather interior which dad is not fussed whether embossed or not?

2. Digital switchover in his part of the world is in 2012. Does the Columbus/MFD3 support a DAB signal or can it be adapted to? Otherwise is there an aftermarket option that could?

Thanks in advance

According to the July 2009 Octavia brochure the L&K is also available with

Onyx Alcantara (black) leather uphostery as a free option.

As for the digital switchover I understand it's only the Television signals that are being switched. There is a Government proposal to switch the radio too in 2015 but it's by no means certain that this will go ahead.

As far as I know the Columbus doesn't recieve DAB signals but there are devices that do that can be used in conjunction with your radio such as the Pure Highway : http://www.pure.com/products/product.asp?Product=VL-60905

FYI, the black (onyx) alcantara alternative is a fake suede-like material and is quite different from conventional leather.

So it is, well you learn something every day, no wonder they offer it as a free alternative. In the Elgance yoou can have Onyx or Ivory leather (or Onyx Alcantara) so why don't they offer these options in the L&K too ?

I'm not sure the CR140 is available in the Octy yet, I think its still the PD140. :(

As for 2 part if you look in the VW Golf PDF's you will see DAB is a option with RNS510 (i think) but Skoda it seems no. But to be honest DAB is just BAD, had in a Ford hire car and utter ****.

James.

Hi,

Just looked in Golf PDF and says this:

"DAB compatible radio Digital receiver upgrade to RCD 310 and RCD 510 radio systems at £165

The DVD touch-screen navigation/radio system will guide you to your destination using all but the last two digits of a UK postcode and includes a 61⁄2 inch colour display. It also plays DVDs (when the vehicle is stationary) and music from the DVD drive, 30 GB hard drive or via an SD card. Optional on SE, BlueMotion SE and GT models."

But then

"DAB digital radio receiver and DVD touch-screen navigation/radio system cannot be specified in conjunction with each other."

So it's a no for Skoda or even a Golf, unless you use something like a pure highway to aux and powered etc

I've heard reports that DAB in a car doesn't work all that well too James. I've not got a DAB radio or add on in the car but I have got one in the house and it's okay but not as good as my HiFi FM tuner. I think that's why there may be some protest against switching it to digital.

The Ford DAB kept on going in and out even though FM would have been fine, past a sign and gone over a hill and in deep gone! I found it a bit like using a mobile on a train ok works until you go though a tunnel or "I can't hear, yes on the train, yes train no on the TRA...." and user of said mobile is left lost by pressing phone.
