Disc Guard - Stone Trap!

Featured Replies

Does anyone else find that the disc guards on the rear axle of their car is a magnet for trapping stones, despite the fact I'm pretty sure it's there to stop stones getting in there in the first place!!

Today was probably the 5-6th time over the last year and a half that the car has developed the "finger nails on a blackboard" screech of a stone behind the disc. Pretty easy to sort with a screw driver and a bit of brute force without having to take the wheel off....

....but bloody infuriating on an "off road" car!!

Admittedly I get to see gravel more often than most, but still!

I've never had it happen in the year of ownership on my Mk2 Octy.

Happened a couple of times to me. Always clears itself though within a couple of turns of the wheel.

Yes happened to me on a 'normal' Octy....

James.

I live dry a lot on country roads which are strune with stones especially after a storm... Only had a few occasions over the years with suck stones...Try reversing to clear the stone....

Happened a few times to me. one occasion the damn thing just refused to come out. Finally with sooty fingers and a hefly screwdriver it came out.

Had it once in 9 months of ownership. It happened about 2 weeks after I got the car and it was whilst I was driving thru the town. Made an abolute racket and freaked me out as I didn't have a clue what the hell it was. Cleared itself, thank god, after a few hundred meters.

Hi yes I used to get this quite often on my octy reverse and its sorted though sounds bad but don't think its any major thing though:thumbup:
