PH Roadtest - FL vRS

Featured Replies

A decent, honest, well-balanced review that.

Three cheers for PH :D

Steve

All the reasons I have bought 2 VRS's to date are in that review. Always felt I am sitting in a hidden gem when in my VRS on the road. Well apart from when you see a fellow VRS driver.

Have you read some of the comments in their forum about the review. I swear some of the people on PH can't pull their head from their ahole. Comparing a sub £20k car to a near on £50k RS4 is a bit ridiculous!

Good review, just shame most of the plonkers on there dismiss it straight out without any proper subjective comments

Yes, there are many PH'ers like that. Good ethic for a website, but the forums do leave something to be desired IMO...

Seems some people still cant leave alone the badge snobbery. I mean some peeps were saying what an aweful interior the car has. Have they actually ever been in one. Mine has the best interior in a car I have ever owned.

That's absolutely fine, I don't mind that mindset one bit ;)

That's their opinion; let them have it

It's probably what keeps every second car on the road from being a Skoda. So I shall continue to bask in this wonderful exclusivity

........the steering is accurate and judiciously weighted.......

Anyone else nod and then roar laughing? While the steering is accurate, there's no way I'd cal it weighted. Well, maybe next to a Micra or Yaris, but come on PH, it's hardly weighted. And the lack of feedback is poor too. I'm not expecting Catherham levels of feedback but something, anything, would be better than the Octy?

I'm sure I'm in for some flaming here but driving my own MK2 Golf Gti back to back today with the vRS, the steering feedback is one of the biggest let down's of the car. Pity, the rest of it is pretty bloody good.

Should I leave Briskoda now? :rotz: :D

Re: Steering weight, you could always try this VAGCOM adjustment to the assistance (note: I don't know if this works, nor do I offer any warrranty if you try it)

Steering weight

44 – Steering assist

10 - Adaption

Channel 1

Should read 5 on non Vrs models. Pick a number between 1 & 6 for steering weight

Should I leave Briskoda now? :rotz: :D

Might be an idea...

Not at all cos you are being subjective! You're not just bashing the vRS for any reason like the sheep on PH.

You are comparing and you actually own one which says loads :D

@VRS195 - Must track someone down with a VAGCOM and give it a try. Might make the world of difference

@Paul007 -:orb_toung

@Nathanio - I try not follow sheep, well once I'm finished with them

Oh ans it's not mine, the MK2 Golf is. The vRS is my Mrs. Jammy cow

Mine too. I looked at an Audi A3, the new Golf SE, and the new SEAT Exeo and my Skoda is as good as any of them. It also looked just as good quality as a 3 series BMW (although a Volvo S40 did look quite stylish with light coloured leather upholstery).

The interior is perhaps more important to me than the exterior as that's the view I see of it the most.

If people aren't prepared to look past the badge then in one way that's all the better for us as it keeps the prices to something sensible. If a Skoda was thought of as the same as a BMW we would have to pay £10,000 more for them.

Mine is the only Octy 2 VRS estate in the works car park as far as I can tell - which is fine by me. It really stands out from all the countless ranks of silver/grey BMWs & Mercs and other indistinguishable hatch backs. Let them keep their dreary cars I say.

I think the review pretty much nails it on the head for me.

My VRS PD Combi is not as much fun over B road or as composed as my previous Focus ST , the gearchange is sloppy but has much better load capacity ( and fuel economy) and is still a hoot to drive.

But I have to conclude in fairness that the ST would still be on the drive had I not recently become a "Performance Dad".. but think the VRS is the best compromise:thumbup:

Now VAG , how about a 5 pot diesel please?

Sod that, just make the 3.0TDi V6 fit! Pity it's built the wrong way round :(

What are the chances I wonder? And would it really be that much better? Would the nose be too heavy as a result?

I think I'd prefer more extra's as standard, 200BHP and more torques as standard

No chance. It's long and thin, when it needs to be wide and fat for the Octy :D

A sloppy gear change is a little unfair. I think it's pretty good, have you ever tried a Citroen Xsara HDi or Kia Rio gearchange? Now that is sloppy! I spent more time stirring it trying to get it in gear than it being in gear! Thank god they were courtesy cars!
