Hello And A Few Questions

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

This is my first post so I apologies if the questions have been answered before.

At the moment I drive a clio172 (y reg 35000miles) although its great fun and very quick there are a lot of cons with the car.

Last week I decided to pop down to the skoda dealers near my girlfriends house to have a look at the Vrs.

I must say I was very very impressed and hopefully will be part ex ing the clio asap... But I have a few questions

1) How much do services cost ?

2) Whats your avarage running costs?

3) (silly question) But hopefully I'll be getting the car chipped at jabba.. so what would would the 0-60 time be and do you get a kick in the back when the turbo kicks in?

4) Has anyone changed the seats from the standard ones? As I wasnt to keen?

Sorry guys if these questions have been answered

cheers

John

Bah...a mate of mine recently test drove the vRS and the 172 and he preferred the 172!

I think you'd be making the right choice in changing it though... ;)

Services are a subject of discussion at the moment - it's not overly expensive, and most

dealerships have fixed price service boards up. If you search on the internet the only

website which quotes prices is Marlborough of London - let's just say I've never paid

as much as this!

Running costs are good - I think high 30mpgs are typical of the vRS.

0-60 runs on the chipped 4x4 come in at around 6 seconds, not sure on the vRS but it

will be similar. The kick in the back is nice even on the standard vRS, but if you want

raw Scooby-type thrust then you might be disappointed. If you want a ride in a chipped

4x4 I'm sure one of the northern members would oblige if you attended a Thursday night

northern meet... :D

The seats should be standard VAG fit, so getting Recaros, etc. for them should be easy.

Hope this helps and welcome to Briskoda!

Rob.

Hi and welcome!

1) haven't had mine serviced yet but there's a thread in " my maintenance which goes over this and various otehr threads.

2)I think Jon (TaviaRS) is best to answer both this and the one above. I can say that my mpg now at 13.5k miles is 35mpg. Regularly see 40+mpg on motorway. Haven't need to top the oil.

3)After being Jabba-bered I expect mid to high 6 secs; not be done yet but there is still abit of a kick in standard form.

4)No but I'd like to; not enough support for my liking. You can probably change to Recaros from a crashed Golf or Seat Leon; I imagine the runner etc are the same. Look in "my performance" as there was a thread of seat there; also had some link to various seat supplier so you can get an idea of the costs if you wanted to changed.

Cheers.

Adrian.

John,

Would you be the said owner of a 172 clio at an EVO meet last year and of similar EVO profile?

If so Hi! if not Hi!

I note your not too far from our weekly thursday night haunt! A few of us get together and have a bit of a drive around and then a pint or two.

re Q's, I have the 4x4 Octavia and is a worthy consideration. I left a primera gt and was very very tempted by a vRS, but thought I needed the estate.

1) How much do services cost ?

Jon (TaviaRS ) has 88k in 18 months so is possibly the best to give a break down on real costs considering that is still above a normal 4/5 year term of ownership.

2) Whats your avarage running costs?

See no.1 :)

3) (silly question) But hopefully I'll be getting the car chipped at jabba.. so what would would the 0-60 time be and do you get a kick in the back when the turbo kicks in?

Well last tests using a AP22 meter, Ian (Tavia4x4) who's on a jabba plot pulled 6.4, thats a lower gearing ratio to the vRS aswell with more weight.

4) Has anyone changed the seats from the standard ones? As I wasnt to keen?

No Ian and I have considered a few but with keeping the side airbags. We both drive estates and bounce around merily. The vRS seemed better, but again compared to the more "agressive" vehicles on the market, not that good, accord-r seats par example.

Hope that helps, maybe see you on a thursday (pm me or Rob for details) I went one night and

Have a good old root around in the forums. Alot of members to bounce ideas of, see you soon.

I really like the vrs seats, would prefer full leather. I noticed on the one I ordered it has vrs logo imprinted on the seats, the ones in the brochure dont have this.

Any other questions, let me know.

Thanks for the replys guys, very usefull!

Where fo you normally go for you weekly meeting? I might be able to make 1 in the near future.

Tend to meet just off J6 of the M61, which by my calculations is not far from Chorley!

Exact details are usually arranged closer to the time in case details change...

Rob.

On a 300 mile round trip to Coventry recently, I averaged 42 miles per gallon with Optimax. That included about 30 minutes stuck stationary in traffic, but also about 40 miles worth of 50mph limits.

Haven't had a service yet, but I'm expecting not much more than

I'll be going for the hatchback version. Are the seats different in the estate verstion?

I think Rob (Illing) was referring to the forthcoming Fabia vRS as an alternative... :D

Or indeed the Octy Estate vRS. As far as I know, the estate and hatch Octavias have identical seats.
