heyup! trying to beat off the stigma - is it just my wife?!

Featured Replies

Hey all, been mooching around this forum for a bit as seriously considering a mk 2 vRS tfsi for my wifes (and really the family's everday) next car... Really like the look of Steve's yellow beast up in the for sale forum...

I know they are brilliant all round cars - I have occassional use of a mk2 hatch and estate and more regular use of a mk5 golf gti, they have subtly different characters but both the engine and handling are a joy in both but..... and you know where this is going... all my wife can say is, i don't want a skoda!

I honestly thought the old stigma had dissapeared about 10 years ago, certainly it did amongst anyone who knew anything about cars, but it has obviously stuck with some..

Anyone else have this problem with S(or He)WMBO?? how'd you convince them to see the light??!

ha ha well actually the other options are my 'toy', a 6.1 425bhp Jeep SRT... which she's never driven.. or her car - the most image-less car ever, a mk2 Ford Maverick - and no, I know you can't even picture it! lol

Hello! :wave23d: Ignore her and wear the trousers for a change? Of course i'd never do this, the wife would kill me!

randomly when looking for a replacement for our Ibiza PD130 my other half absolutely completely did not want a Fabia VRS even though they are virtually the same car.

One test drive later and we'd put down a deposit!

Chick's are like that! :D Although she'll be along shortly to tell me they're not!

As above, just get to her to drive one.

Welcome to the site :)

Tell her to get a life or enjoy the walk

lol, well i'm working on it but not doing too well! hopefull i'll be able to bring a work car home for her to have a sniff around :)l

Hello and welcome. I have to say my swmbo said she didn't want one either. So I said when passing lets just have a look at it. Was the Mk2 vRS launch and as soon as she saw it and sat in it decided we should have one.....great.

Just buy it! If she doesn't like it cause of the badge, then she clearly knows naff all about cars, and you shouldn't really be listening to her opinion! :)

correct - she really knows naff all - not so much a matter of listening to opinions, more a case of damage limitation!

Just buy it and if she throws a paddy, divorce?

:)Welcome.

;)Buy her one of my Estelle's or Rapid's...she will really have something to moan at then!:rofl:

Hiya.

Surely your wife would be the Stigess, not the Stigma? ;)

As others, if she can't see past the badge, tell her to walk! (esp if the thinks a Fix Or Repair Daily Suburban Useless Vehicle is a better choice).

well as you guys seem to already have it in for his missus, would the same be said if it was a bloke I wonder? my 2 sons neither wanted me to buy my car, specially the 19yr old, but after a blast down the open country roads where we live, Josh was more impressed with it than I.

Thing is, in my humble opinion just get her to take a test drive as suggested already and see what she thinks. End of the day tho if your paying for it then its your choice, I'd give the ford away then jump between the skoda and jeep

oh by the way - hello and welcome to the group

Just joined today and bumbling around whilst I think on how to introduce myself I found your thread....

My wife couldn't be bothered to come for a test drive with me. She just couldn't believe her eyes when I drove home in MY brand new VRS LE estate the following week. Fortunately she finds it very comfortable, which was always a problem with my old Seat Ibiza 1.6S.

Hello

As Ken implied, I thought you were calling your wife a stigma when I first saw your thread :D Hope she didn’t think the same:eek::D
