IPods on Yeti

Featured Replies

I can't see any option specifically listed to get iPod control/charging on the Yeti.

Have I missed it? Is it maybe an option in the audio/radio/nav set-up that's not widely-documented as yet? Surely to goodness Skoda aren't thinking of releasing a brand new model without at least the option of iPod support - that could be a deal-breaker.

mdi option.

mdi option.

Sorry - could you explain a bit more please? What's mdi? Is it a Skoda acronym or a general car specification term? (If it's Skoda then this will - if I do go ahead - be the first Skoda I've ever bought - no prejudice, just hasn't been an ideal model when I've been looking in the past. So I don't speak Skoda as yet (or even VW more generally - always Japanese in the recent past.) Certainly I can't see 'mdi' in the current Yeti brochure.

{And speaking of the brochure - maybe I should start a new thread on this (?) - on p11(footnote) it says 'Full-sized spare wheel or space-saver wheel can be ordered as an option' ie implying that there are two types of spare but then the space-saver is not on the options list on p16. I wonder if the space-saver would actually save a useful amount of space?]

There's definitely no MDI listed as an option in the Yeti brochure. I did ask in a showroom today but the salesman didn't know and confirmed that it wasn't in the brochure. Suggested that maybe because the glovebox is a different design then running the cable might be more tricky, but that sounds rather unlikely!

If I ever did order a Yeti then it would be with the satnav, but no-one seems to be able to tell me for sure whether this option could be made (officially) iPod compatible or not.

TBH you don't need one, if your music collection is in unprotected MP3 format, you can copy it to a SD card and insert it into the slot on the Bolero.

If it's in MP4 or AAC then you'll need to convert it to MP3 and then put it on the SD card.

It's not really the same though is it? AFAIK there's no random play on the SD card for instance (maybe I'm wrong about this?) plus you need to maintain the SD card separately from the iPod, which could be a major hassle.

Why isn't it the same?

There's a random play facility available for playing music from SD cards and all you need to do is when you update your Ipod update the card as well, just make sure that you don't put MP4 or AAC tracks on the card as it (Bolero) won't recognise them.

The Yeti can be ordered with factory fitted MDI in Norway. The "outlet" / where you plug in the cable that connects the ipod to the car is situated right in front of the gear lever. I can't see why you shouldn't be able to order it as well? Shouldn't be to much of a hassle to retrofit MDI either.
