2.0 litre engine identification

Featured Replies

I just took a 2006 1.9Tdi Octavia out for a test drive and was gobsmacked with the impressive speed+torque of the engine compared to my current 1998 Peugeot 406 Hdi. On paper they are almost identical in terms of engine spec which strikes me as really odd.

The garage selling the 1.9 checked the V5 and it definately said 1.9. I was still curious about this though, is there any easy way to spot the 2.0? Does it usually say it on the back badge, or is inspection of the engine necessary?

Perhaps my HDi engine is just on the way out ;-(

Thanks

Unless your Pug has the 136bhp 6 speed hdi engine, you can't even compare it to the Skoda.....they are excellent and very powerful!

Nope, mine had the 110Bhp engine which, on paper, has the same power and torque, so I assumed they would perform similarly? But there was way too much of a difference which is why I thought that maybe the car had a 2.0 litre engine.. I will double check the badge tomorrow ;-)

Probably the best idea to be 100% sure, if it's the 2.0l that has more torque than the petrol vRS! To be fair the 1.9 torque isn't far off....approx 185lb/ft......

Does the 1.9TDI Octavia have a 6 speed box? I thought that was only fitted with the 2.0TDI

Might be wrong though.

PD engines have always punched above their weight.

Is the 406 heavier than the Octavia I wonder? power to weight is of course the most important figure at the end of the day.

Definately had a 5 speed box. This was the hatchback and my Puggy is an estate. Mind you, specs says that the Puggy is lighter.

Sounds like a 1.9 to me. A highly underestimated engine if you ask me.

Surprised about the weight of the Peugeot, its a fairly big motor but I must admit I can't remember the last time I saw both models of car next to each other

why didn't I think of that?!

Dunno :P

Your mind was distracted by another stunning episode of Eastenders

Is it possible the 1.9 has had its ECU remapped ? That can give them quite a bit of extra urge ;)

thats what I was going to say - if its been re-mapped it will be up to about 140 bhp and 270 ft llbs of torque...

I am guessing there is no way of knowing for sure. The car is at a garage and it's not a local car. I will be trying another next week so will be able to tell then.
