Coming home/leaving home function

Featured Replies

Hi

Can someone tell me in simple terms (really simple terms please!) how to switch off the coming home/leaving home function on my 2008 2.0TDi Elegance please. The handbook tells you how to turn it on but not how to turn it off again. I have only started to see it operate in the last week or so on dark mornings so I don't know if it has been on since I got the car in March or not. The car has Maxidot and auto light control but I have tried leaving the auto switch off as was suggested in one thread but still the lights come on when I unlock. I really really don't need this function and with winter coming up my concern is battery drain on very cold mornings. Any help gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Dave

Your battery will be fine with the function enabled, its designed to be used in much colder climates than the UK ever gets to. If the option to turn it off is not on the maxidot menu, then you will need to visit a dealer and have the cars coding altered. It should be on the same menu as the one where you alter the 3 flash indicator settings.

Thanks for that but I'm sorry I really don't understand that. As a nuts and bolts person these Vagcom and Maxidot things just confuse me, hence my request for a simple easy to understand step by step instruction. Trust me, in NE Scotland where I live it gets cold enough to strain batteries on many a winter morning.

Has your car got Xenons? If it does then do not worry about your battery since they use quite a bit less power. Also with the nights drawing in try giving them a chance to prove how useful this function can be.

Hi

No it hasn't got Xenons and I really would like to turn this off if possible, or at least have the option to. Please humour an old man!!

Absolutely brilliant. Thanks very much for that I shall try it tonight when I get home.

Much appreciated.

As regards the battery in cold conditions I've noticed that mine (and I presume all other models) has an insulating jacket around it. This is the first time I've had a car where the battery is insulated. Maybe the chemical action of the battery produces some heat which the jacket keeps in.

Its the other way round. Moden engines produce a lot of heat in the engine bay especially turbos.

If the battery got too hot it would boil the acid and would then evaporate

Thanks for the help on this . I followed the instructions to the letter last night and lo and behold it worked and now I have learned a wee bit about the Maxidot computer as well. Quite why there is nothing in the handbook or any of the documents I got with the car about the Maxidot is a mystery to me.

Glad you got it sorted. But I have to comment about your cold weather concerns..

I live in Finland and we do get worse than -30C (that's -22F I think) during cold winter days. Let me assure you, you have nothing to worry about with the battery. It works here just fine without any extra steps :) I even had auxiliary heater running for 30-45 minutes during cold mornings in my previous Furby vRS. Never had any battery problems with it. Trust my words, it eats a lot more battery than 30-45 seconds of head lights.

Have safe and worry free miles with your new Scooter
