Results of my cheap(ish) remap on a rolling road

Featured Replies

I have been wondering if the cheaper Stage I remap (£275 from a Pendle Performance agent) that I had done 6 months ago on my 2.0 petrol VRS had any major disadvantages from some of the better known/better regarded maps but which cost significantly more i.e. was saving a couple of hundred quid shooting myself in the foot.

I think that it is clear that the 'one size fits all' maps may be risky but this one was done by a guy with a vagcom who took the map, sent it off, had it tweaked and sent back all from a 3G connection on his laptop from my driveway. The only downside was that there ain't no rolling road on my driveway to test it despite the difference being blindingly obvious on the post-map test run.

Anyway, I had the opportunity to put it on JKM's RR on Saturday thanks to a RR Day organised by one of the guys on the seatcupra.net forum.

The result is attached.

I was pleased to see 231 bhp as I expected 220 (and certainly not the 250 advertised by nearly all mappers!). However, I believe that a e.g. Revo map would give about 260 ft/lb of mid-range torque (I think) whereas I am 230-240, albeit very smooth. Perhaps that's where the extra couple of hundred quid goes!

Anyways, I appreciate that others have probably done this comparison but just wanted to share my experience. Still the best £275 I ever spent and I don't feel in any way disappointed with the current map....other than I think I'm hooked and want Stage 2
