Diesel VRS to FL Petrol VRS - First Impressions

Featured Replies

Well, I finally got my hands on my new car today. I know its early days, but first impressions are very good. I have owned the VRS PD for 2 years and thoroughly enjoyed the ownership. Previous cars were Impreza and Civic Type R, taking everything into consideration, the VRS was the best car I have owned.

The car was remapped after 1 year by Will at Performance Torque and turned it into a tyre shredding beast, however in June this year the DPF in the car went 'bang' and had to be replaced at a cost of £1000. (luckily still had warranty).

Decided it was a time for a swap, so initially went looking at 2nd hand petrols, however, soon discovered that there were no silver estates for sale in the whole country. So, put in an order for a new one in July. Ordered a silver estate 2.0 TSI VRS with, rear parking sensors, maxidot, mdi and spare wheel.

Picked the car up today and although I have only done 10 miles, cant believe how much nicer the engine is. So much smoother and quieter and a pleasure to drive. The bolero is also a fantastic piece of kit and is a joy to use with ipod and mdi. I have to be honest, I wasn't a massive fan of the FL's that I had seen in the pictures on here, especially the wheels. However, in the flesh it is a completely different story. The front end in much nicer and the wheels, once polished, look better than the zeniths I think.

So in short, loving the car and cant wait to get some miles under my belt. A trip to REVO in a few months is also planned. :D

Here you go. Not great pics as the light was starting to fade and it was very grey and had been raining.

-Update- Took the car for it's first outing today. It was only 40 miles but included a combination of city, dual carriage way, motorway and countryside lanes. Drove steady at speed limits and maxidot is showing just over 41 mpg. To be honest I was not expecting that especially as the car has only done 80 miles.

Got to say that the 2.0 tsi engine is a real cracker and has totally surpassed my expectations. Miles better than the pd170 in my opinion.

Yes but remember by all accounts the CR diesel is streets ahead of the old PD!!

Nice pics

:thumbup:yep nice pics and I agree about the engine and the MPG as I get a reasonable return, having had diesels for 15 years its also quiet!! I bet you are smiling from ear to ear just like me:D

Silver is the best colour I have seen the FL in. Looks stunning. Funnily enough though I have went from the 1.8T Petrol to a CR 2.0 170 and am happy with the change to the diesel.

Looks very well indeed!

Sorry for being dumb, but the TSI - are we talking super and turbo charged or TFSI like the old 2.0 T?

The 2.0 TSI is just turbo charged and is essentially the same as found in the scirocco and golf gti mk vi (although 10 bhp less than the golf).

From what I have read, there are quite a few changes from the old TFSI engine, such as a chain cambelt etc.

Very nice!

Petrol is always better :)

Ah I see. From the 1.4, I always thought TSI meant turbo'd and s-charged and the TFSI was the normal turbo'd one but it seems to be more complicated than that. :D

'Bout time it had a timing chain and not a belt. All you need to change on those is the tensioner which should be a cartridge style insert (it was on my BMW's).
