Bluefin on PD170 VRS - disappointed

Featured Replies

Hi

I ordered and installed a bluefin remap for my PD170 Vrs at the weekend.

However I feel disappointed in that although the car is certainly smoother at low revs, it just doesn't feel any quicker or responsive when I boot it, considering it should now have ~ 320lbft torque.

Was I expecting too much ?

Its not unknow to have a underlaying fault with the engine which causes the map not to run at is full power.

Ben

If you are not happy with the bluefin file just email them with your concerns and they will be more than willing to send out another map. It might take 2 or 3 before you get one that suits you and the car.

Yeah, might be worth getting a fault scan done to make sure there isn't anything up with the turbo controller or WHY...

Do it like dstev2000 wrote. I did it the same way, wasnt too happy with the map after the 26E6 update. It does feel smoother but lacks the extra power.

Just contact SC and they will sent you another file. I also had a couple of different files before I found the file that suited me best.

Pretty important to force a DPF re-gen' with the 170 carrying a remap. The automatic DPF re=gen rarely occurs in normal use as motorway speeds are too high to allow it and town driving is incorrect for maintaining the constant speed required. I can post details of how to force this with VAG COM if it helps......

A blocked DPF will seriosuly hamper performance on the 170 - I have had many issues like this when mapping them! Give it a go before you feel the car has let you down!

Please do!

Hi thanks all for the posts re contacting Superchips. I'll try to get hold of them today as I wasn't aware there were several map possibilties.

Do these vary the feel of the car, ie more top end , more mid range etc depending on the map?

My car had the DPF update done before my ownership.

As for DPF regen cycle, I think this may have happened a few weeks ago as after a 10 miles drive along some single lane A roads, I noticed large clouds of soot coming from the rear, slightly alarming but I assumed the filter was clearing itself. The driver behind didn't seem too impressed though

This is a great value of SC. Somebody used a map of ChippedUk and I've been told it was impossible to get a valuable communication and a proper customer service.

It does differ a lot. You can have either more driveability (ie smoother or eco tuning), more topend (hpo file, goes nearer to the limits) or something between.

Before 26E6 I had 3 different maps, first map had some glitches. Car would hesitate after driving 160 for a while and than applying full throttle, as if it was running to rich or to lean and had to sort out fuel before it accelerated. Second mal didnt do this that much as the first map but had a minor hesitation at around 120-140 in 6th.

Second map was smoother but lacked power. Third map was spot on for my driving. No more flat spots and more power in the range 140-220 (all kph).

After 26E6 the first map was more like the second map before. More power midrange but lacking sheer power.

After getting my last map (drove this map from 60tkm till now (120tkm) I was satisfied again.

But they warned me, because of the specification of this last map. You could have problems with the DPF, because it injects more fuel. I dont have any problems with my DPF since the last map, but that again can be because I am driving a lot of restricted autobahn (NL max 120) and here the DPF can do its regeneration processes.

Please be careful if you try this as you really can cause a fire!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not responsible if ya burn ya car to a crisp!!

Diesel Particulate Filter Re-generation Procedure using VCDS

Initial requirements

  • Ignition ON
  • Engine ON (Idle)
  • Coolant Temperature above 50 °C (see MVB 002.4)
  • Particle Filter Load below Specification (see MVB 068,2 VAG-COM should give the specified value)
  • If the Particle Filter Load is above Specification (75-85%) the Particle Filter needs to be replaced since the car may burn down when regenerating.
  • Power Consumers ON (Light, Seat Heating, Front/Rear Window Heater, Climate Control)

Conditions (read and prep car for re-gen)

You must do this to obtain and accurate reading as to the build up in the particulate filter and you also need to do this to safely force a regeneration otherwise you may potentially face a fire!

  • Vehicle Speed between 40-50MPH (3rd or 4th gear)
  • Engine Speed between 2000-3000 RPM (4th or 5th Gear, Automatic Transmission in Tiptronic)
  • Duration approx. 5-10 Minutes
  • Exhaust Gas Temperature before Turbo Charger above 700 °C

Now the important bit forced regen

In vagcom [select control module]>[01 - Engine]

[Coding-II] Enable Regeneration by Entering 21295 [Do It!]
