is that expensive?? does this car have individual coul packs or 1 which does all 4??

Around £25 to £30 each, one per cylinder and a known weak point with this engine. The trick is to identify the faulty one(s) without a diagnostic scan.

any tips on doing that??

Start with the left one and unplug the coil plug and then start the car.If the car is worse than it was it's not that one.

Probably no.2

got one for 20 quid..and by pure luck i started with no1 and it was no1 which was faulty. thankyou !!

I had this on a previous vrs I owned. It turned out to be a coil pack that boosts the voltage supplied to the spark plug. There have been problems with faulty batches of the plugs supplied to Skoda and if you take it to your local Skoda dealer you may find they will replace it for free. It happened twice on my first vrs, each time on a different cylinder, and I wasn't billed at all.

BTW for joe m there is one per cylinder. As I understand it the engine management system supplies a low voltage pulse to each cylinder when it is its turn to fire. The coil pack on top of the spark plug, which I think is built into the spark plug itself, then boosts the voltge to a level high enough to create the spark.
