Spacers required......

Featured Replies

Ok, so, springs ordered but I think I need to widen the track width, on the rear anyway, 15mm hub centric spacers should be perfect, any advice from you 'spaced out' Briskodians would be nice.....make, type, price etc

15mm is a lot for a spacer, don't for get wheel bolts, would be better to go for a stud conversion !!

Why do you think 15 is a lot for a spacer?

why do you think 15 is a lot for a spacer?

your moving the of set of the wheel further from the bearing which will affect the geometry of the suspension as it moves, through its travel , i have seen bigger spacers on rally cars when set up is changed for different surfaces but this comes with different geometry , not to mention the extra load on the wheel bearings,

Bearing in mind the rear arms on the Mk2 Octavia are on eccentric bushes, means the rear track can be shortened/widened aswell as having the camber adjusted.

You should be able to have this done whilst having a geometry setup after the springs have been installed.

I know this as my rear left wheel is sat further out than the right down to the numpties at the garage i wont be taking it back to.

Heavy bumps usually has the tyre catching the edge of the arch liner.

I was thinking 15mm was quite conservative compared to what is available, I have searched on here and the norm seems to be 20mm!

I will be having the full alignment done when the springs are fitted along with the spacers if I decide to get them.....any links out there for buying?

15mm >is< a lot. 20mm is LOADS!! I've used >max< 10mm machined spacers before on other vehicles and when you see the additonal whell bolt legnth it really hits home just how much even 10mm really is. As somebody else stated, widening the track potentially does all kinds of things to the handling due to the change in geometry and an additonal 30mm on the track is loads. I have no idea what the effect will be but you >will< notice it for sure.

The most important thing is to ensure you get proper precision machine hub-centric spacers from somebody such as H&R. These generally bolt to the disk hub face and need to have the correct centre-bore measurement. alternative bolts will need to be sourced and it is not uncommon to have to get longer than required and have them machined down. They need to have to same amount of thread inside the hub as standard. There is an increased risk of wheel bearing wear due to the increased leverage force produced by moving the midpoint of the wheel away from the original centre but its not a huge issue. Demon Tweeks (assuming you get to speak with the right person) are pretty good at sourcing spacers and bolts. Oh and don't forget you will also need longer locking bolts - I would go for McGuard as they are well made and secure.

I suppose at the end of the day its back to what you're after - looks or handling. Personally I like the handling as is and will probably only lower the car a minimal amount using Eibach's but I won't be fitting spacers. Messing with suspension geometry is a risky business and you never know what the end result will be.

Of course all of this is just my hunble opinion and I am not even close to expert on the subject but the above >is< based on previous experince on other vehicles - Alfa, Fiat etc not Skoda however the same rules apply and the theory transfers. I suppose don't go bonkers, cover all the bases with the correct type of spacer, bolt etc and you should be fine.

I'm assuming you went for Eibach springs??

Decided on a set of Pi springs, not because of the cost, but I have experience using them and have always been pleased with the results.

I am surprised what you say about the spacers, searching the forum today has revealed a lot of people have added them with out problems, and 15mm does seem to the norm. Although there are a few with wider! I hear what your saying though and thanks for taking the time to reply.....
