Mk1 VRS Tailgate Handle

Featured Replies

Hi there, I've tried searching for this, but I am looking to replace the tailgate

handle on my Mk1 VRS after I scuffed it against a skip.

In terms of removing it, am I right in thinking I would need to take the internal trim off on the tailgate or can it be done just by removing the rear numberplate lights?

Any advice appreciated.

I think it would have to be done from the back of the panel as there is nothing really to remove from underneath the number plate light covers.

As a side note has anyone replaced the screws that hold the number plate lights on? Mine have rusted like mad and could do with replacing but not sure what size they are.

Yeah I have, you buy the new lenses with screws from Skoda (the screws are captive in the lenses). Don't think they cost too much, try the parts sticky maybe.

Back on topic! Yeah you have to pop off the interior trim then remove the handle from the inside. Not done this myself though, so don't know about the finer details such as releasing the lock.

the screws are seperate part number N 013 961 2, 9p each!

Cheers for the replies.

I get the feeling the handle could be a right pain to get off it appears to be bonded on slightly so it sits flush with the tailgate.
