tips for buying skoda fabia

Featured Replies

hi

im looking to get a skoda fabia 1.416v as my first car and was wondering does anyone what i should be looking out for and what things i need to test?

also im looking to get one on 2000, 2001 plate. what millage would be decent for the car?

last thing the difference in insurance between the 1.4 16v and the 1.9tdi is only £100. out of the two which is the best engine reliability wise

thanks

Diesel engine is much tougher than the petrol. The 1.4 can suffer from worn piston rings so check for blue smoke on over-run. Average mileage for a 2000-1 plate will be between 80 to 90K probably much higher on a diesel.

Common faults, leaking rear door carrier seals, worn front suspension bushes. Check all gears are easy to select and that it doesn't jump out of any gear.

would you say the fabias that are available for around £1000 are worth getting or is it better to look at the ones starting at 2000

You nearly always gets what you pay for:cool:

Based on experince, £2,000 would give a better car if you looked at a small sample. However, £1,000 could buy a decent one, could just be harder to find. To be honest, if you give it a good looking over and check service history then you should be able to gauge for yourself which is better. Although you could buy one for £1k, then spend a few hundred fixing the faults and saving a few quid. Think it will depend entirely on the particular example really.

Dunno if this could start being an issue on older cars, but my steering rack rubbers perished (2001 car, ~90,000 miles at the time) so that could be something to look for - mega ££ as well.

Why couldn't I put it that simply!:rotz:
