Central locking problem, just got back from the dealers...

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Ive been to the local skoda dealers today to ask them why my central locking isn't working, the cost to take a look was £37.50, I dropped the car off at 8:30 this morning and got it back at 5:15 this afternoon.

They've told me that my central conveniance unit is faulty and its going to cost £304.42..

I don't have that money spare at the moment... Is there a more reasonable skoda garage I can use or is there any way I can get the part and do it myself?

I'm hoping someone knows of a cheaper solution!

Same problem here. You can go to independant etc to get most of work done but the car will still have to go to Skoda for CCU to be coded to car at some point.

Out of interest how much have you been quoted for part?

I didn't get a price for the part unfortunatly, didn't think to ask..

Not sure what to do, hhmmmmm

retail on the unit is £193.23 + vat

Ouch!

From my experience I always used a independant VAG specialist in Tunbridge Wells. When the problem started they had the car for 2 or 3 days to try and diagnose the problem but couldn't. Eventually they sugested CCU and said they could recondition it to save cost. They then loked into cost of CCU stating they expected it to be £500 ish if they are anything like Audi prices. On finding out that they are not they said they would replace and despite 6 phonecalls they have never got back to me!

Mine seems to be intermittent at the mo so not too concerned, more concerned with CD Changer, tyres and service:thumbdwn:

I phoned all local Skoda dealers to find out labour rates and will go with the cheapest one. I was shocked at the difference, up to £20 per hour!

Anyway, Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.

common fault really a lot of the vag ones are in the passenger footwell and get damp though water ingress, cause alsorts of trouble with the windows and central locking
