Mine only being the 1.9 tdi 105 I hardly ever take it over 2500 even at 70 mph, I have been keeping an eye on what the revs are during normal driving and i seem to change up at around 1500 to1800

Does the turbo run from the off or when you reach 2000 revs???

When my turbo went it cost Skoda £2700 to put right :eek:

Your turbocharger will be spinning pretty much all the time as the exhaust gases from the engine flow through it. The turbo will not do any useable work under 1500-1800 rpm depending on the type and size of turbo, bigger turbo = more inertia = longer spool-up time.

Even if the engine is in the optimum rev range for the turbo it still depends on engine load as to whether or not it is working hard. Coast down a hill and the turbo does diddly squat.

I've a PD105, which has quite a bit of service history, but not a FSH.....it was on variable servicing upto around 118k when i bought it and dropped the oil.

I changed the oil to fixed intervals, and did a further 7k before the turbo let go overtaking on the motorway.

I didn't know at the time that the car had been mapped and was pulling close to 150bhp.

I think to have the car mapped and running 20k intervals, especially on a diesel is asking for trouble.

Which caught up with me, the next time i'll be more careful as to what i buy. It has been a rather problematic car with quite a few things becoming a problem.

The EGR valve is spewing oil over the inlet manifold and down the back of the block, and is the most recent problem.

This was a issue when i bought the car at 117k, which isn't bad really considering its took 18-19k to become such a problem that i think it maybe contributing to a running problem.

My previous 2ltr Petrol Turbo, use to have oil and filter changes every 6k down to my own personal preference. But then again i was rather fussy about keeping a engine with higher than normal performance in good condition.

Are there any other parts that are cheap?! I couldn't believe the price of the air-con compressor (£691!!!). You're easily looking at a >£1k job when that inevitably goes. Mine went the month after my turbo went but luckily got 70% parts/labour goodwill so cost £384. Then the month after that one of my injectors, along with the pump. (cost me around £300 after 50% parts/labour goodwill). Seems that my car waited for my warranty to finish then started to self destruct and empty my bank account but none of these things have been cheap to fix. If I didn't get goodwill then I don't know what I would have done.My father in law worked for VW as a car designer about 10 years ago and he told me that all the parts in a Golf would only come to about 2.5k cost!

Many people have asked me why I am getting another one, but I can honestly say that other than these repairs this car has cost me next to nothing in running costs. I am not sure if all of these problems can be attributed to being on variable service, I think I have just been incredibly unlucky.....

Did you get all these jobs done at Autohaus?

They have just gone into administration

Only the turbo. They wouldn't offer me any goodwill on the aircon compressor so took the car elsewhere.

Gone into administration eh? So is that why they went to share the mazda dealership?
