Query on bonnet soundproofing on petrol FL

Featured Replies

Am I right in assuming my petrol FL vRS will NOT have the bonnet soundproofing? And that the code for the old shape vRS will be correct?

Whilst I'm here I'd like to get the boot mat, my new car will be an Estate, so will the mat/linear for the old Estate fit the FL??

Finally any suggestions for online providers or shall I go to my local dealer for the parts?

Cheers,

James

The boot mad *should* fit i cant say for 100% yes

The bonnet soundproofing i think depends where your car comes from.

Mine is a 2007 model and never had the Sound proofing. Some 06 models did and i know some 08 model owners who got soundproofing.

Your best bet is the dealers i think

I picked mine up this morning and it has no pad under the bonnet, but it seems so much quieter than my outgoing mk2 which has it!

There is no under bonnet padding on my 1.4 TSi and it does not appear necessary from a noise aspect.

Do the F/L diesels have it as standard ? - have asked this before without any response.

There's a thread regarding the fitment of the soundproofing pad:

That should put on on the right page for the part number, I think darrenw has just done it (fitted it! Keep it clean you lot!!) & it cost him around about £30.

Yep. Done it (fnarr fnarr) and it does take a slight edge off the sound, the bonnet feels cooler and from the underside, looks finished too.

My vRS diesel estate has it, but I don;t think it makes an awful lot of difference. I had, two cars ago, a very disappointing Mercedes B200 CDI automatic whose worst feature was the droning noise it made - just like a London taxi. It didn't come with soundproofing on the bonnet and I had it put on - expensively - and the noise was as bad as ever.

I think it's the amount of soundproofing on the bulkhead between engine and passengers that makes the difference.

The CR diesel is a lot quieter than the PD - that I'm sure is the engine itself as it's quieter from the outside as well.

I've just checked on my FL vRS CR and it does have the padding :)

Did mine the other week and it's £20.

WDG, can you for the record & clarity put the part number here please, as some folk say it's 1Z0863831, whilst others say it's 1Z0863831A.

Which one did you order & fit?

Did it come with the clips as well?

Ta.

When I ordered it a couple of weeks ago the parts guy said that the A version had superceded the other version. So that was the one I got. It came with clips and was the easiest thing I have ever fitted to anything. Can't say I have noticed it being massively quieter but usually listening to music anyway! £17- something plus VAT.

So it appears the petrol facelifts don't and diesel facelifts do - guess it makes sense from a decibel aspect..

Since it seems mixed that some do come with this and some don't I've asked my dealer for their experience in previously delivered cars.

If mine doesn't have it on delivery I've asked the dealer to supply & fit one, for £20 seems silly not to.

Be careful getting them to fit it, they'll charge you for labour, which will probably make it £40-50, just get them to order it & fit it yourself, that way you're just paying for the part.

Yep. The dealer will charge you whatever their minimum labour period is. That can be a full hour and ever subsequent half hour.

Mine took about 2 minutes to line up and pop the plastic clips in place. No tools needed.

I was kinda hoping they would do it as part of the deal but if they want to charge I'll certainly do it myself

Just fit it yourself. It makes you feel like a big man!

But if you can't then you may need some step ladders :)
