stupid designed speedo drive that falls in

Featured Replies

ok i was changing the oil on my 1.9 felicia as checking 5th nut when i refitted the speedo gear and it worked for 100yards then stopped so i removed speedo drive and guess what it fell in the box (think it was plastic made) my questions are can you remove with out splitting box all gears are working do you guys think it will just sit at the bottom of the box forever and how the hell is it suppose to fit in i guess it held in the drive part but there was no clips or nothing and is there a mod to improve it

if i have to split the box i was thinking of modifing the end plate by 5th gear drill and fit my own filler plug so you dont have to remove speedo drive would that work do you think

Punctuation? I didn't understand that, at all....

I dont normaly pick on spellings or punctuation, however Babs does have a point.

As for the speedo drive. i have heard storys of them dropping in, but have never managed it my self.

would it fit through the drain plug???

The issue was that if you want people to help you, you need to ask questions, using standard sentence structure.

I didn't think there was room for the speedo drive gear to get past the diff and drop into the case, but I've not had a standard diff for a while. It's possible that it could sit there without problems, but if it does get caught up in something, then it'll be messy - at best it'll damage something and I guess it's possible it could jam the 'box up, depending on where it gets stuck.

Can't see how you'd remove it without splitting the box, although they're not that difficult to do (especially if you're leaving the clusters in place).

Can't see any reason to do the end case oil filler mod; sounds like a lot of work for no real gain.

Obviously some people don't have any trouble reading it :P

same thing happened to me when i first got my 1.9 felicia and checked g/box oil level.

the replacement part was different and could not fall apart like the old one.. the old design must have caught a few people out and forced a "redesign" by vw

as for the old one- the bit that went in was only plastic , i simply run it for a few miles then drained the g/box oil and the remains came out, then put fresh oil in and did a few more miles and drained again(this time there was no sign of bits in oil so refilled and forgot about it- that was 6yrs ago.:)

that reminds me , i must check the g/box level sometime again:rolleyes:

You obviously didn't read his disclaimer in his signature then?! :P

Good advice about just leaving it in there then and letting the cogs take car of it. That is, of course, if it is just the plastic bit that has fallen in.

Actually I just have a GCSE in English Language, grade B :)

However, I am well aware that there are keys on a keyboard specifically designed to help people understand typed text, such as commas, full-stops, colons (quiet at the back!) and other punctuation marks.

Your original post was the digital equivalent of running into a shop and blurting out your whole problem without stopping for breath.

Using correct punctuation and grammar will increase the chances of your question being answered sooner.

Some people on here just get bored and will take the time to find meaning in the text you posted. On the other hand, I have plenty of other things to be doing.

I'll gladly help where I can :)

Well he is Karl the boy not Karl the man, men peak proper. :P

This is just a troll post as I havent experienced the thing falling down the hole.
