The "Strines" Run A616 to A57

Featured Replies

Start from either Midhopestones or Langestt on the A616

It goes mostly along Mortimer Road to the A57 (snake pass)

Only a short run but a great fun challenging road

Can be quite narrow with several hairpins - even better at night :)

Drive safe and enjoy

:D:D:D Very true!

Love this road..

Spot on road this, only ever drove it quickly once.

But it did prove challenging, was interesting to see how the my mates Civic Sport did in the bends.

Another run i thoroughly enjoyed was snake pass!

Dont know how it would be in a unmapped car now though :(

Can be really hard to get traction just after any of the hairpins going up the hills :D

With 225/40/R18's and a measly 105bhp its quite hard to break traction

This is kind of on my commute now. As I'm going home at least it's viable, I can go via snake or woodhead. So I'll check this out for those nights when I'm bored ;)

i live 2 miles away from the strines, its a pretty crazy road at the best of times and is to be treat with respect especially at this time of year

I think you should treat any road with respect, especially at this time of year :)

Think i'll be investing in another pair of vredsteins for the back before winter is on us.

I used to travel this road as often as possible when I had the MX-5. Pure bliss, even in the crisp, frosty sunny mornings in January.

One hell of a road if you do the full length.

Lots of changes from bumpy bends to fast straights, and the tightest uphill/downhill hairpins :D

What's more there is an excellent pub about 1/3 the way up :)

Ooh I think I know this road, at least I do if Strines is the village with the cricket ground in the middle (it’s on a bit of a hill at one side of it?). The roads round there are great and the ‘Snake’ used to be one of my all time favourite roads. It’s not so much fun now with the extra traffic that seems to use it these days :(

Strines has little more than a pub,The Strines Inn, but I think the village you mention might be Bradfield, which is quite close and yes there is a cricket pitch in Low Bradfield (53.423731,-1.605359 on Google Maps)
