Oil Change Service.

Featured Replies

Hi, sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, I am not yet able to post in all areas of the forums!

I bought a skoda fabia vrs about 4 weeks ago now. It's just rolled over to 45,000 miles, and now I'm getting a message saying 'oil' which I assume means it needs an oil change. The last service was done at 40,000 miles, or thereabouts. The dealer I bought the vehicle off checked all the levels and everything, so what I'm asking is three things: -

1) do I need to get the oil changed?

2) do I need to get it done at a Skoda dealer to get the 'oil' message removed?

3) how much will this cost?!

Cheers in advance!

Hello Bezzy,

If only 5.000 miles since last service, your oil should be fine.

1) Do not need oil change, yet.

2) Skoda dealer can remove "OIL" message, AND, so can you !!!!

3) If you do it, it's free, a dealer could do it for nothing, but they may charge.

To reset "OIL" message or "INSP" message.

Turn ignition OFF

Press in and hold down Trip button (beneath speedo)

Turn ignition ON

After 10 seconds '------' will appear

Switch off

Release trip button

Turn ignition ON

Message should have disappeared.

As your service is probably not due until 10,000 mile's or a once yearly time, this message may recur again, but you now know what to do.

Good luck.

PS:- Next time, I suggest you click-on 'Search' (extreme top right of page), just tap in question. OK

PSS:- If you have a Haynes Skoda Fabia 2000/2006 manual, Resetting is on pages 1B-8 and 1B-9

Hopefully this will work!

Hello Bezzy,

Your not wasting my time, only too pleased to help, like most members on this site.

Check-out E.Bay for manuals, pretty competitve prices.

I was advised by my local friendly Skoda technician that if you *really* wanted to look after the vRS, you should change the oil every 5,000 miles.

You could just do it yourself, there is a good 'how-to' guide in the technical section..........

Ok, I might consider this as I'm planning on having the cambelt done soon too, so may get them done together. I've got some finance to pay on it, so money is a bit tight, but I do like to look after my cars! Any idea if the correct PD oil is much more expensive than a cheaper alternative?

Thanks.

PD spec oil (Vw 505.01) is now pretty cheap, it's the long life variable service oils that are expensive. The VRS doesn't have the variable service option. You can get Quantum PD oil for £23. Or at the higher end of the quality market Castrol edge for about £35.

You MUST use the PD oil though, or the PD injector rockers and camshaft will wear out PDQ.

Strange this, my vRS has done 74k and had the usual 10k service at 70k. Today OIL appeared on my display along with the little spanner, given these cars dont have variable servicing (sure they dont?) how come its put these warnings on the display? Are there any kind of sensors to monitor the oil for quality or anything? I only ask as I recently did a trip to the Nurburgring in August so maybe this has something to do with it? Ive checked the oil level and all is well so just trying to work out if its safe for me to reset the display or take it to the garage for a once over.

Any thoughts? thanks, John

Edit: I had Castrol Edge oil put it in at its 70k service so definately the correct PD oil.

As well as the 10k mileage interval, it also works using a count down days timer. Basically it's oil change every 10K or 12 months. IIRC the engine does also use an oil condition sensor, some models certainly do, but will need to check up on the VRS and get back to you.

Much appreciated Moggytech, would be most interested to know if they have an oil quality sensor! Its not happened previous years Ive been to the ring but im sure its possible

Skoda manual says only fitted to cars with variable service option. Haynes manual shows it fitted to the PD130

Sensor is usually on bottom of sump, and don't ever remember seeing one on a VRS.
