is this oil consumption excessive

Featured Replies

I have a 98 1.6 MK1 Octavia petrol no oil leaks or blue smoke but when i check3d the oil today it was on bare minimum.

It was serviced in April at 73k and had oil change then its now on 77k and had to put a litre of oil in to get it in between the min & max.

I was thinking 1 litre of oil in just 4,000 miles was to much, there are no leaks and there is no blue smoke so just wondered if this was to much as its the first time i have ever had to top the car up with oil.

The car is used for running around town and gets a good motorway run about every 2 weeks (170 mile round trip)

1L of oil in 4000 miles is jack schmitt.

I've had cars use 1L of oil in 1k, which is vauxhalls recommended amount.

thats ok then, I know what you mean about the vauxhalls i had a mk4 astra that just loved a litre of oil every month :)

I disnt realise they needed topping up that much so will check more often.
