No idea on longevity but Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas take some beating at £88 per corner from Camskill - budget for £10 per tyre to fit on top of that

wow thats well cheap compared to the £150 plus i been looking at for contis an the like. are they any good or just good cos they cheap?

Dan

You need to read a few of the tyre threads, before kittens start dying ;)

In quick summary, I would expect them to out perform the Conti or Dunlop, even when price is removed from the equation.

I'll either be going for these or the V12 Evo Hankooks next. I also rate T1-R Toyos, but think I'll try something different next.

I read several reviews from others on here before buying them, and they have lived up to all expectations so far, both in wet and dry

These are the absolute mutts nuts for the money and have got other manufacturers scratching their heads. Seriously don't hesitate - you can drive yourself mad over tyres - I run them and so do many others on there. They suit the Octy perfectly. You need 225/45/17 or 225/40/18 depending on wheel size. Available from ebay as well at £84 each.

I have read alot about tyres on this site and there seems to be 3 or 4 options generally suggested by members for the vRS depending on price you want to pay. A lot more brand names exist out there (am talking about the lower end of the market here) for example, on my previous car I was strongly recommended the Millennium Tyre for all round good performance and they where reasonable price too. Obviously you can only go by your own experence here, but I found them excellent and will by considering these when the time comes. I was wondering if any vRS owners have tried these in the past or have any comments to make on this brand. Just trying to widen the discussion here and give members more options. "Is there really value for money out there"???

To be perfectly honest, these are indicative of the type of tyre you find fitted to £350 eBay wheel and tyre packages ie: not really up to the standard of something like the Vreds or Bridgestones.

With tyres you really do "pay your money and take your choice". Cheap tyres generally suffer from poor wet weather grip, lowever overall levels of grip and reduced safety margins. Yes they are black, round and hold air but tio be perfectly frank, i wouldn't fit them to a performance saloon such as a VRS.

Milleniums are the budget tyre from Avon

Unless you've experienced the increased levels of grip, lower noise, better wear and reduced rolling resitance of a quality tyre, its easy to regard other supposedly "performance" tyres as offering good value.

Yes there is value for money out there but its not Millenium if you value performance. Show me a tyre test where they equalled or bettered top brands in the way the Vredesteins have dione quite recently. 3rd I beleive in a recent Autocar test anybody?.

Milleniums are actually not that cheap when compared to something like Vredesteins - in fact they are similar priced but offer much less.

The risk is you can widen the choice on offer to encompass all kinds of tyres - 225/45/17 and 225/40/18 are after all pretty common sizes and you can get liquorice in that size now but where do you stop?

Go for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, Had mine on now for 24k and still only half worn!! Replaced the fronts at about 18k. My car Octy Vrs Tdi with bluefin so not slow!

Recently got 4 Falken 452's fitted by Event Tyres at my workplace. Total cost was £310 with no 'hidden extras'. I took a gamble as I was after Ultrac Sessantas myself but gave these a go to see if the good reviews were accurate. They were. I'm not saying that they are the best tyres ever but I am saying that they must be up there wityh the best value for money at the moment. More importantly, they are safe

Yep, they're gonna be here until at least Monday I reckon :)

Give me a shout and I can fling one in the back of the car and meet up with if you like.

Hi guys - pricing up tyres too and been offered Falken ZE912 XL 225/40/18's at £70 per corner inclusive. Free tracking if i get all four done.

Thoughts versus the Vredestein welcome - many thanks.

Cheers,

Ste.

I've seen what those Vredesteins can do on an Evo X, so yes they are good. Also I'm really enjoying the Toyo T1-R's I have on atm.

Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta's are the dogs danglies!

Its been the first proper wet weather day today for me to try them out, im rather impressed with the level of grip in the wet.

The grip in the dry is exceptional for the price of them!

Have a read through this recent thread;- http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/very-impressed-vredsteins/157693/

from which I have copied a post I made;-

Bought myself a set of new 18s last week on a whim and needed some tyres.

Went straight back to Elite Direct (Rainham, Essex) and bought a set of 4 Ultrac Sessanta in 225/40 18 92Y at £89.70 each inc. VAT and delivery (225/45 17s are currently at £80.50). That's £358.80 for all four, delivered.

Did this on-line at 2:00pm yesterday and tyres were delivered by DHL to my office an hour ago; not quite within 24 hours. DOT production code on all four is 2609 i.e. they are only a couple of months old; good stuff.

Will get them fitted at the weekend.

As for longevity I got about 12,000 miles out of a very hard driven set on the front of my vRS TDI, compared to 18,000 miles from Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s; 2/3rd the mileage for 2/3rds the price BUT the Ultrac Sessantas have much better wet grip!

Sheesh, i need to do more motorway driving.

I managed 8.5-9k on the Kuhmo 712's, given that the car was mapped from 105 to 150bhp and i wasn't aware of it till Ben checked my car out.
