Strange Water Noise In Bulkhead?

Featured Replies

Have just returned from holiday in the Lake District where it rained heavily on a few days and there's a really strange water related noise in or around the bulkhead. Sounds like someones stuffed a large water bottle there?

There are no leaks in either of the front floor pans, completed baffled by this.

Any ideas or theories would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

It's so you can dip the headlights......:)

check the drain holes under the scuttle panel aren't blocked , this would stop the rain water from draining away

Ric, can you explain to me how to access these holes, where they are located and what's the best place to access them, e.g under bonnet topside, under car

Thanks

to be totally honest :o, i'm not sure how the scuttle panel comes off , but its the plastic vented panel at the bottom of the windscreen

To completely remove the scuttle panel involves removing the three clips (which are quite stubborn and you end up breaking them) and removing the wiper arms which tend to get stuck to the spindles, then it should prise out from the channel that secures it at the base of the windscreen.

There are drain holes at either end where the water drains out behind the wheelarch liners, you could try a prod around that area with something that won't scratch the paint to bits, maybe some flat nylon packing tape, or you could pull the arch liners out a little and try from that end.

On some models (depending on year) there was a drain close to where the wiring loom passes through, these have a rubber flap which gets blocked. You'll have to look under the sound deadening for it. Alternatively you could carefully try to dislodge the wiring loom grommet to let the water out.

Hi briskodian ,

I have a 2007 Roomster which has exactly the same problem with a sloshing water noise from the front bulkhead . I have removed the front scuttle panel and it is all clear . When water is poured into any of the vents it seems to drain away immediately. Clearly there is another drain point which I have not yet found . Would you please tell me if you ever identified the cause of the problem and what you did to resolve it .

Thanks

Don't suppose when initially turning the ignition on, but before turning the engine over, a sorta whooshing sound can be heard with the fuel system being primed, and quite the norm.emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Plenum chamber drain plugs:

If ever you get to find them take them out and throw them away.
